Box Hill Hawks v Casey Scorpions

Featured Replies

Jurrah and Blease must play next week.

Watts seems to have even less intensity in the VFL- cant see him back in the AFL any time soon

Watching Casey on TV:

Get Jurrah to the Dees ASAP. He is excitement and intensity in everything he does

It is a mistake playing Watts, Green, Tapscott, Blease, Jurrah in the twos. They might not be in great AFL form but they are all far too good for the VFL. They are all a class above. Just leave them in the Dees and let them grow, playing multiple games together.

Lucas Cook is interesting. I don't reckon his fitness is great, but could he do any worse than Martin, Fitzpatrick have offered?

Sadly, we have had too many over the years that are a class above at VFL level, and can't cut the mustard in the AFL. Let's hope that Tapscott, Blease, Watts and Jurrah can drastically change that trend.

Many thanks for the reports guys. The ABC do not televise the VFL in my part of the world and your updates are fantastic..

Goals to Jurrah and Taggart, Scorpions running away with a seven goal lead. Classy finish by Taggart.

I realise he is gaining fitness but how is taggart looking overall? Can you see him making the grade?

Very happy to hear Jurrah showing good form. I say bring him in! We need a spark, and who else can provide it?!

Interesting comments on Watts, if he keeps gathering the ball you'd think he'll be in next week given the poor effort last night from Petterd. I'd like him to desperately want to ball, but I don't know that we'll ever get that from him, he will always have a larconic look about him.

Also happy to hear Green doing well.

Add Tapscott to that list.

First I have seen of him, has drifted in and out of the game but he looks classy and has a go, just as write this he kicks his second goal from a turnover.

EDIT: Just realised I have been spelling Taggert wrong, pet hate of mine.

Its almost half our best 22 in 2011 playing in this game...

Wattsy cant do anything right. Takes a mark inside 50, hands it off to the best kick on the ground who nails it from 55.

Only to get bagged for handing it off by the commentators!

Watts has been asked to play on the wing and has 21 touches + 1 goal at 3/4 time. He has shown he can get the footy so why not keep in in the forward line only?

I realise he is gaining fitness but how is taggart looking overall? Can you see him making the grade?

Slight frame that will need to bulk up - good awareness.

Taggert will make the grade and the sooner the better. He can get the ball and use it when he gets it.

The commentators are obsessed by Watts, its highly annoying. They keep saying he isnt doing enough, but he's leading the stats count on the ground.

Jurrah looks just about ready, his class and composure with the footy has been a highlight, straight back in at the SCG next week for mine.

First time apart from last week Ive had a good look at Taggert, he certainly is very clean with his skills, and doesnt mind the contest. Can definitely see him getting

a game at some stage this year.

Green had some great touches early but definitely looks short of a gallop

Slight frame that will need to bulk up - good awareness.

The kid is 187 and weighs in at 84, he is a fair size particularly through the lower body. Will gain a lot more strength in the upper body as he has more time in the system.

Blease and Dunn have a bad habit of turning their back on the goals after a mark.

Too many Melbourne players do that even with the ball in the back pocket. I get the feeling Dunn and Blease do it because they rate themselves very highly.

Also Stef Martin as the game is going on is looking more and more like the Martin of old, I hardly noticed him in the first quarter. Hes getting that run and confidence back into his game which is good to see,

While Spencer has probably been beaten on the day by MaCauley, its good to see him throwing his weight around.. Took great delight in seeing that pest Chance Bateman taken out of the game by a crunching Spencil bump.

Stef Martin gathers 30m out in the pocket and snaps for goal - out of bounds on the full.

2 Casey players waiting 10m out, both free.

*sigh*

I just want to highlight something Jurrah just did then. The ball was rolling towards Casey's attacking forward fifty, with Watts and a Box Hill player chasing it about a metre away, Jurrah was about two metres away, but instead of going for the ball as well, he ran forward backing Watts to beat the Box Hill player. Unfortunately Watts fumbled the ball. The point is, he was thinking ahead and whilst numbers to the ball are important he backed Watts in. Too many times we see three or four Melbourne's players go for the ball which is great for winning a contests, but once they have it there are no options around the pack running off.

It was only a little thing but it's the kind of football smarts and thinking Melbourne need.

I've been watching the game.

Ins for me to AFL side: Martin, Watts, Jurrah, Blease and Tapscott

These guys are way way way too talented for VFL level. We suck, we may as well have our young talented boys developing at AFL level. They all show enough to be in the AFL side.

Other things i've noticed:

- Nicholson is such a butcher of the ball, he's fast and breaks lines, but can't kick so should never play AFL again

- Davis has potential. like his effort. clearly not ready yet, but great endeavor, looks like a step up from MacDonald

- MacDonald, Green and Dunn do well at this level but just aren't that great. They could be called into the senior side but wouldn't make a big difference to our fortunes so nothing to get excited about.

- Spenser is bad, but get a break bc coming back from a knee re-co.

- Cook and Lawrence long term prospects, not close to selection atm

Someone paint some glue on Watt's mitts please *sigh*

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
