I'd suggest that some of the 1Yr, 'Older Options' they took last year, will be nearly times up, & they may look to a 29 Yr old Big Body to help lead for the next 3 years.

It's a standard condition that Sheedy will only pick up Melbourne players if they are well past their use-by date, so any current-listed player should be safe (although Brad Green's stocks are rising by the day).

With that in mind, I have it on good authority that Paul Wheatley, Jeff White or Alastair Nicholson will be offered an assistnat coach role, with the view that they will be able to run out a solid 22 games in 2013.

Do tell the tune you hear?

Very well put - I'm on a forward scouting mission as we speak.

Enemy camps are definitely upping activity levels and using those "naughty" boys in the media to flush out the targets. GWS got their early plans stifled by AFL last year - but their "last minute" allies where never committed to the cause.

When I start seeing & hearing the smoke screens & diversion bombings - I will do my best.

Passed it through the google Swahili converter but nup ...

Sorry mate some info will just never appear in google - much to the disappointment of many around here(RR especially).

Never trust everything you read on google anyway - we have ways of making it talk.

In my mind Jack Martin is exactly the sort of player the club needs. Versatile, can play inside and out, good skills and can generate a bit of excitement (mind you Jesse Hogan would fit in nicely as well):

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=138983

I’ve read that Melbourne have been looking closely at Martin, along with Fremantle and Gold Coast (god I hope they don’t grab another gun 17 y/o, but they may have some attractive pieces to trade). Jake Niall mentioned that the mini draft picks could be crucial to the Travis Boak trade and that GWS have interest in picking up a key back.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/cats-compo-pick-crucial-to-boak-deal-20120619-20m6p.html#ixzz1yI7CDXLd

I think they also need a ruckman.

Our mid first round compensation pick would probably be a minimum inclusion + at least one regarded KPD/ruckman.

Having signed Mark Jamar for three years, I believe it’s time to shop Stefan Martin. I like him as a player, but don’t see a regular spot for him in the side with Mitch Clark and James Sellar available as secondary rucks. We need to continue to develop Max Gawn as Jamar’s replacement, meaning Stef’s the odd man out, and he may still have currency due to his very good run in Jamar’s absence last year.

We also seem to have reasonable depth in the tall defender department now as well (see Garland/Rivers playing forward in recent games), so perhaps we have room to trade one established KPD out either for a mini draft pick or as part of another trade deal. McDonald’s looked good so far this season and Troy Davis deserves a run at some point.

Gold Coast have pieces to get involved, and it looks like Freo have something to offer now as well:

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/dockers/14001124/freos-giant-draft-coup/

With all of that in mind, what would people see as a reasonable package to obtain a mini draft pick? Which key position defenders would/should we look to include or shop around?

Pick 3 from MFC to GWS

Mini-draft pick 1 from GWS to Port

Boak from Port to MFC

Petterd to GC

Viney selected with 2nd round pick

Posted

Boak and Pettard would be the weak links.

Boak tells Port "If you don't trade me to Geelong I will go into the draft, and Port will get nothing. Do a deal with Geelong"

Ricky needs to play some neat footy between now and draft day (F/S day).

Boak for pick 3 in a supposed super draft seems to much to pay

If we did this does it mean we then get to take Viney at 25?

If I was to pick Boak up, which I wouldnt, I would offer #12 at best.

Surely theres better mids around we could pick up at #12 than Boak? Anyone?

Maybe that pick might be a beauty in the draft....

All these dodgy back-handed deals to nail us some minors, really confuse me.

Just get me someone awesome in a Melbourne jumper, and I'm happy. Also, it must be a midfielder.

Kthnxby.

"Hogan has had a massive impact on the championships to date," AFL national talent manager Kevin Sheehan said of the 193cm key position prospect.

"He's athletic, he takes contested marks, he hits the scoreboard and he can play down in defence as well.

"He's super-competitive, aggressive, and looks to win that contested footy. He's really lit up WA's forward line.

"Martin (a 184cm midfielder) missed the first game, but has shone in the past two. He's just so athletic, good in the air and quick over the ground. He kicks goals and can play in virtually any position on the ground.

"He's got a little bit of weight to put on, but he's an exciting player."

Aggressive, competitive, athletic big body vs exciting, quick ball mover needing to put on some weight. Sounds like Hogan is more of a Neeld game plan guy. is it annoying that when I read those descriptions I think of Clark for Hogan and Flash for Martin?

Bit unfair on him though. love to see a few games from them. I'll take both.

Most people are comparing Hogan to Carey & Martin to McLeod. Both are being touted as match winners.

Comparing Hogan to Carey !

That'll get BH masticating .

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
