Salt into the wounds?

You point to Blease's elite attribute in speed saying he could be valuable

What about Strauss' elite kicking? is that not a valuable asset? Look at Hawthorn, loaded with elite kicks

It's interesting how the Hawks use Suckling, one of their best kicks. They don't expect him to play like Sewell or Mitchell. They expect him to find space when they have the ball, and his fellow defenders look for him & try to get the ball into his hands, so he racks up the uncontested possessions and does damage with them. We expect Strauss to play like Matty Whelan & get his own ball under pressure.

Will we ever use Strauss like they use Suckling? Not holding my breath.

As soon as we get a Hodge, Sewell and Mitchell, we very well might.

Taken by the swans, generally regarded as being very good at the recruitment game...

are they regarded good at the recruitment game? or are they good @ the development game,,,, with an exceptional attitudinal club culture???

they're maybe the 'melbourne storm' equivalent???

He's had 11 games without making much impact for mine. Just doesn't seem to get enough of it. I would love to be proved wrong but 11 games without leaving an impression of any sort apart from that horrific injury in slightly bizarre circumstances is not encouraging.

Maybe a bit of both, but they managed to get Josh Kennedy & Mumford from other clubs prior to them becoming dominant players, they picked Sam Reid and Hanneberry out with late-ish picks and haven't taken too many bad picks in recent memory.

Kade Simpson didn't get a possession in any of his first 3 games.

Is that a recommendation?

Kade Simpson would be in the best 22 at MFC, not to mention Carlton.

It's just an example of how the earliest games in a player's career don't necessarily indicate how good they will be going forward.

I agree pitmaster and I have said earlier that is all he appears to be is a dasher.

We are talking AFL here not the Stawell Gift

And as you say first you have to get the ball

11 games in a horrendous team, being absolutely beseiged in the backline - and we wonder why he wasn't starring?

Strauss showed a bit for mine. Had a few 20 + possie games, used it well, is reasonably hard at the contest, good runner, nice kick, bulked up a fair bit

I'm happy to let the lad have a few more games before we call it bust

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
