Melbourne's Financial Backing

As long as it's not a sinister fast-food boss giving us carte-blanche, then I'm happy.

Gus money?? Haha hope there is not an industrial laundry hiding somewhere!!

My Guess is....

Richie Rich

But you havent said anything of substance other make illusions of something important. And if you are worried about this affecting the Club i am not sure why you even started a thread about it.

Geez give the guy a break. What's the problem with his thread and/or posts? It's not malicious or scandolous in any way, isn't having a veiled dig, in fact it is a positive bit of info. Doesn't matter if the story is true or false. Why is necessary for him to reveal who the backer might be? It's neither here nor there i would have thought.

Exactly. I'm glad to hear stuff like this. Thanks for sharing mate. The way some of you blokes carrying you'd think you were running a grand inquisition here or something. Give the guy a break. Here's an idea - if you dont like the thread or think it's pointless dont post.

I have two very influental names whom are avid Dee supporters whom are both currently unseen but very, very powerful:

Jac Nasser--refer http://www.bhpbillit...es/default.aspx

and

Mr Joseph Gutnick- a very close admirer of Jimma and former President, refer to his company aptly named Legend,

http://www.lgdi.net/...27ce911253e4214 which one can notice is owned (15%) by one of te world's richest men-George Soros.

Either one can continue or start a relationship with he Dees IMO.Their money and astuteness would always be appreciated, again IMO.

And, by the way, if it is not either of them, then we should definately try to gain both on board, the Dee Wagon..

Can of worms, jcb...

I wouldn't mind if they came on board, possibly as individuals, bring their companies as sponsors-BHP or Legend, on the front of the guernsey or both. They could even bring down to AAMI a shipment of gold, iron ore, or uranium, if hey like. Our players could become ambassadors, Similar to Judd/ Pratt scenario. Both companies mine in ourback places and gaining the likes of Liam Jurrah could enable them to assist them with such things as negotiations with the indigenous people.

IMO- a very smart move, if someone at the club took this up.I'd sooner a can of GOLD than a can of worms.

Bob Hawke's involved in this somehow???

and Visy isn't?

I just meant that mentioning the name (Gutnick) would open a can of worms on this site...

I am all for nefarious deals with our plethora of rich benefactors.

Yep, the more the merrier. Knowing that they're there would be good. Knowing who they are doesn't worry me. Bring on the anonymous benefactors.

Something a bit odd here. My post (above) has been edited, i presume by a moderator. In the part removed i questioned why a moderator would take the guy to task. I didn't insult a moderator (or anyone for that matter), swear or write anything inapproriate. I certainly didn't breach the code of conduct.

Can a moderator please explain why this section from my post was removed.

probably just a case of 'premature moderation'?

Because the fact that this family isn't already recognized as being strong Melbourne supporters & financer's has me puzzled & hence I've drawn my own conclusion that they would want it kept private (don't know why). We all know journo's go on here & would hate for this knowledge to affect the club (again I don't know how but better to be safe then sorry).

Posted this on here because I was having some drinks with people in the know & wanted to share we are in a strong financial position going forward.

EDIT: You're right Deestroy; it has a lot to do with why we are able to have such an extensive & highly regarded coaching list + snaring/keeping a few players.

I'm 95% sure I know who it is...I have been to their Mansion in South Yarra for a dinner party about three years ago. We had a big discussion at the time about Melbourne. He was very much against tanking. Loves melbourne. I was suprised that he/family isn't involved in the club more. But the whole family is rather media shy.

I have no problem with silent contributors. Would I want my name thrown around Internet boards? Not really.

I am sure there are still many wealthy MFC supporters who would be happy to help the club as a way to lesson a tax hike. They just need to see some incentive for doing it.

The MFC is looking a lot better than it did 3 years ago.

Why not? It's not a slanderous rumour. It's something good about the club if true (makes sense with the amount of cash we're throwing at coaches and elite fitness staff etc...), and the info is being relayed to us die hards without the source being divulged, take it or leave it.

Subsequently he/she has since added that they may want to remain private. That's fair enough.

I always liked the game "Guess Who?"

Is the supporter Male ?

Does he have facial hair (beard/mo) ?

Does he wear glasses ?

Is he in the media ?

lol.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
