The Ghan was brilliant.

I fell asleep before the end, what happened?

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned on here yet but I’ve been watching Black Mirror on Netflix. It’s an anthology series from the UK that is what I would suggest is a modern take on the Twilight Zone. Some episodes are a bit ‘meh’ but overall it isn’t too bad and worth a look.

I'm a fan of Black Mirror and so is the rest of the household ... quirky, futuristic tales with a twist.

The episode with the Star Trek theme was riotous.  All the episodes aren't A grade but each episode is at least original and thought provoking.

The show might have escaped my attention but for this thread.  Homeland was another that I followed up on after the show was recommended here.

The new series of X-Files is worth a look - a lot to live up to but just seeing Scully & Mulder back along with Skinner & the 'Cigarette Smoking Man' is enough for me - a trip down memory lane.

Good stuff Macca, I’ll have to catch up on the latest X-Files series. I’m only into the second season of Black Mirror so I haven’t seen the Star Trek theme episode as yet.

My trash TV at the moment is Trailer Park Boys. Definitely would not be everyone’s cup of tea but I can’t get enough.

Series 3 (6 eps) of Black Mirror was a step-up again ET.  Currently watching season 4.  I haven't seen an average episode yet but I am a huge fan of the genre.

X-Files season 11 has just kicked off after the iconic show returned last year (season 10)  Duchovny is looking a little worse for wear but he's lived a life.  The chemistry is still there with Gillian Anderson but I like the new series' mainly for it's nostalgic value revisited.

Hangin' out for Billions,  Homeland,  Better Call Saul,  Silicon Valley,  Goliath,  Baskets,  Westworld & True Detective - all should be out (hopefully) early this year or at least by June/July

I've been watching The Crown. Whilst I am hardly a fan of the royal family it is a very interesting watch and you can see why it costs sooooo much money to produce.

What was your favourite part?

The bit where it pulled into the station. Not kidding.

Put BBO on to Toast of London. If you're into twisted degenerates who constantly fluck up, you may enjoy it.

Couple of shows not mentioned on here are,

Berlin Station, one series so far, excellent, not sure where you can get this may have to download

Line of Duty, 5 series so far, 4 on Netflix

Both British and both very good.

Ozark, Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, on Netflix was also very good, very different and had to keep watching, hard to watch just one episode.

Also Spooks, very good series 10 in all, you may have to download this. There is a movie on Netflix with Kit Harrington, based on the series, called surprisingly Spooks, MI5

Gunpowder, staring Kit Harrington, based on Guy Fawkes and the attempt to blow up Parliament, Harrington's distant relative Catsby was instrumental in the plot. Its a bit self indulgent but very good and very graphic. Three part series.

okay - ill put it out there.

The Poms really do make better television than the US.

There. I said it.

Watched the first 2 episodes of 'Ozark' and I'm well and truly hooked - thanks for the recommendation.  It's filling the 'Breaking Bad' void.

A UK made show which is outstanding (IMO) is Maigret ... Rowan Atkinson is excellent as the quietly spoken,  understated French Chief Inspector.  He's every bit as good as the late Robin Williams in playing a dramatic role.

There's been 4 telemovies made and released so far and all are very very good (especially the last one - 'Maigret in Montmartre')

Yes they were good, I've seen them and was surprised to see how good Rowan Atkinson was.

There is another show called The Fall with Gillian Anderson (X Files) and that's up to season 3, also very good. I downloaded it but I think it's on Netflix now.

What did you guys think of Halt and Catch Fire?

I thought the first three seasons were great but perhaps the last season could have been a little tighter in its scripting and plot line.

For those who liked the Good Wife, the cable version now just about to start of its spin off (second season), the "Good Fight" is a very watchable show.

The new British dramas, the Girlfriends and MacMafia are okay also, without being up there with some of the more recent British shows.

And of course there is a new season of Spiral (Engrenage).... one of my long time favourites.

Glad you are enjoying Ozark  Macca...wonder how many seasons it will run

And I'll also vote for Maigret !

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m a few episodes in and enjoying it so far, despite it being one of the weirdest shows I’ve watched.

Not current but I’m just getting into Mad Men. I’ve never smoked in my life but I’m craving a cigarette and whisky pretty badly.

'Homeland' just continues on with its excellence.  Nearly at the end of season 7 and the story lines seem never ending.

'Billions' is great and is getting better in its 3rd season.  Paul Giamatti & Daniel Lewis continue to shine but Asia Kate Dillon is stealing the show portraying Taylor Mason.

And 'Westworld' has just started up again (Season 2) ... First episode was action-packed but I'll need to listen to a few podcasts to find out what the hell is going on.  The time-lines need figuring out too but the various podcasts clear things up.

The Handmaid's Tale is back for season 2 and so far the first two episodes I have enjoyed more than the first season.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
