Travis Tuck? The 'Iceman'? Come on. Any player who has the talent to play at the top level and throws it away by using is a complete idiot. We have had great luck in unearthing talent via the rookie list that may have missed their chance due to an injury or bad luck. But instead we look at a guy who had his chance but wasted it by shooting up and not putting in the hard yards on the track.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he gets his life back on track and finds a way to enjoy footy and perhaps even make a career out of it again. I just don't think it should be at the expense of one of our rookie list spots.

Fair go. He is getting his life back on track having overcome clinical depression. His former VFL coach has recommended him to the club after he played a season at his club. I think he deserves to be trusted for a try out in the same way as any other prospective draftee who comes down for those three or four weeks.

Sewell has multiple B&F wins at VFL standard and a BOG, maybe 2 in GF's, can't see that type of accolade on Tucks list of achievements

Yes Sewell has got alot of VFL accolade, as i said though he isnt recommended to us from a previous Coach of his, His U18's *coach is development coach at the Dogs (Chris Maple) and has been for 3 years now, when Sewell has dominated, havnt seen the dogs even ask him to train, this says it all to me. I have mentioned why Myles (i man i actual quite admire) as i went through high school with him, although not being close friends with him. Myles is a greta player who deserves a chance, although it seems his disposal and speed maybe decision making hold him back from this....

Tuck has shown similar form this year 4th is not to be sneezed at in the Liston, has been on a list if not for his indiscretion may well still be, and i believe has less limitations stopping him from taking the next step. We cannot ignore our new coaches when they give us leads like this, im sure he knows Travis well and his demeanor outside of the game, effort he puts in, desire to get back playing AFL and more importantly his ability to play football and serve the MFC.

Also everyone saying he is the "Iceman" ect get a life, people make mistakes, and most deserve a second chance in life, im sure you have never been perfect, quite i poor showing imo.

Was going to put the no pun intended disclaimer but thought it would be of more entertainment value if i left it out.

If he's clean, if he can play, if he's committed and if the new assistant coach recommends him why not. Tight contract to let him know we won't accept any crap and let's see what he's got.

Get a life? I find in odd that when you have a conflicting view on here people decide they will target you. If he wasn't an AFL footballer he would not be given the same compassion let me tell you. I am all for second chances in life, but this is football and it is all business!

The kid was clinically depressed and wasn't getting much help from the club on it, because they didn't even know.

I think he's now in a much better position for a club to give him a support network and the understanding to help him succeed.

There's no doubting he is talented, and for a rookie pick he's worth the punt.

Yep I agree with this. If (as it has been reported) the drug use was all secondary to depression, and if his depression has been adequately treated (no point picking someone up who will have ongoing problems) then he's worth a shot.

We are way short on midfielders and just because we'll have Viney coming in soon doesn't mean we shouldn't look at someone like Tuck.

Mainly because good players will be hard to come by, especially at pick 74 or so this draft. If he is picked by Melbourne then he must have shown signs he will add to out list even as depth during 2012/13. He comes with endorsements from one of our current coaches.

If he doesnt fit the above categories he wont be recruited simple,

Why not, IF MN has had the heart to heart with him and believes that he can stay clean and contribute.

I think we should put our trust in our new list managers and coaching staff.

You need permission to train with an AFL club. If this is indeed in the works, then it will need to be finalised with the AFL.

In comparing him to other delisted players that will presumably be available in the PSD, I'd be quite happy to see him picked up. Happier than I was after Macdonald was picked up.

He has never been labelled as a recreational user of drugs; all of his drug taking has been put down to clinical depression whether this is right or not.

Being that they assume he wouldn't be using unless he was depressed.

Tuck lost his Career over the above mentioned reasons,

Fev lost his career for many many many reasons, mainly being a d1k...i like Fev i think we would be great at alot of clubs, even Melbourne.

Valenti is older, and slower, and unfortunately seems to have had his opportunity. Tuck wasnt delisted due to a lack of talent as such imo, he had alot of baggage which was holding him back, he must have moved forward since then to get Satterly's recommendation.

People seem to think we are flat out drafting him at thsi stage though,

It is only a permission to train type thing... along way from draft worthy still

It seems pretty simple to me. He has to show two things. FIrstly, is the depression and linked drug taking a sad chapter from his past and something he's confident he has under control and secondly, is he an improvement on Jones, McKenzie and Gysberts. Watching Kennedy over the past two seasons in Sydney may be playing too big an influence in my thinking but my gut instinct is that Tuck is worth a shot.
