Melbourne To Receive $9.1 million from the AFL

......as long as it doesn't get spent on desks! (or such-like)

No way should we spend it on desks, what with Gazza and McLardy smashing their fists on them like they have been, they're far too valuable for that

Seriously though, I hate that we have to take money from the dictators, but the timing is impeccable. We have the list with the talent, but they need moulding into their potential. This money will help us perfect the mould so that they can stand on their own.

The AFL panders to Collingwood again.

Geelong and Hawthorn get Nil which is fair enough but collingwood get chucked a few Mill and Eddie is complaining.

Geelong and Hawthorn get nil, but the Filth get a couple of mil??? How the eff does that work? By all reports I hear the Filth are leading the way as far as off field expenditure and quality of facilities, leading me to think that they are the ones the equalisation money is weighed up against, therefore they should be the only ones not getting a brass rhazoo. I just can't work this bloody commission out, I really can't. I've no complaints about what we are to receive (except that I wish we didn't need it :) ) but surely something needs to be done about this Collingwood love they have going on.

edit: I just read the article on AFL website regarding this, and there was no mention of Collingwood, however Geelong and the Hawks both get the basic package of 3.25 mil.

Its probably compensation for all those games Collingwood have to play in Melbourne

poor dears don't get much opportunity to travel and see the country

Yes, (forces smiling face) Canberra is so enjoyable when Floriade is on. They are missing out on so much...

On second thoughts why don't we double our money and drop the lot on one (or more) of Redleg's geegees

I've got this great formulae....can't fail, bought it on eBay the other day

Now that is better DC

I can see you are starting to throw off the gloom.

You mean the Canberra Tulip Festival? Went last week, but only to replenish my supply of chilli sauces from The Chilli Factory... got their new Scorpion Chilli Sauce which on a heat scale of 10 is rated a 15 :-)

We will never have & Don't want one club 'dominating forever',,, again.

Unless it's the Dees!

Now lads. Let take the 9.1 million buy 45000 Melbourne memberships add them to our 40,000 members next year and [censored] of the bombr and the filth. and the moneys is still ours. win win

You're the guy that's been running the club's finances for the past 40 years, aren't you? With an idea like that...

Well I hope he is not running them in 2012

Does anyone know how the AFL works out these amounts. Is it based on need, does it include compensation for playing in Darwin, are AFL negotiated stadium deals taken into account? To me that is more important than the amount each club gets.

The AFL control almost all of the strings when it comes to club finances to the extent that the difference between the funding between Hawthorn and Geelong at one end and the Bulldogs and North at the other is just a rounding error to them.

There's a video on DeeTV of Cam Schwab. He explains some of the AFL's process and what it means to MFC. Interesting and worth a look.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
