Adding to your accurate post - and maybe developing a super star.At least we have had the experience of settling LJ now, and his fitness has definately improved, all be it slowly but surely. If we got Manson, then able to settle him,who knows what that might create.like Cook-it might be put him away for a couple of years for development..

I agree. Am I right in thinking we have 4 picks in the rookie draft? Being "remainder stock", rookies are speculative at best anyway, so we have absolutely nothing to lose (and everything to gain), by taking Manson on.

Not sure I agree with that hardtack.

What if the guy you do not pick turns out to be mckenzie or Pods mk 2?

This will bring the wrath of Khan down on me but I would rather try Lovett.

Give me 2 minutes to get into my bunker!

Surely if we have picked Sellar for his pick(54) we must have thought there is not much left as far as young tall talent.Fletcher Robert seems a guy with natural ability, I'd pick both and work on Manson & Roberts and breed competitive spirit.4 rookie picks- two 190cm + talls, two smalls and I'll be wrapped.

Well old dee, the way I see it is that people on here are talking up Sellar as having cost us little so we don't lose much if he fails, but there is plenty of upside if he succeeds (I know you are not one of them) - and he has 5 years for just 21 games at Adelaide who weren't exactly setting the world on fire over that period.

So in what was essentially a thin draft (as correctly alluded to be jcb above), surely Manson is worth the risk... we have (I think) three other picks with which to get a McKenzie or a Pod; and besides, wouldn't we be kicking ourselves just as much if Manson turned out to be a gem? (and from what has been said about his skills, that seems to be more than possible as long as his attitude can be turned around).

Agree with most of what you say but I really worry this guy would every settle in Melbourne.

By the way does this mean I can come out of the bunker, it is cold and dark down here

We all reside in that bunker :-)

If Lovett isn't a complete pr1ck (he may well be) and if his body is still good (he's only just turned 29) I'd definitely consider him as a hail-mary. He adds a mature line-breaking dimension to our midfield. If he contributed to his maximum potential and all else went roughly to plan we'd definitely play finals this year. We need a player like him far more than we need a Manson or a Fevola.

What's to stop us getting both Lovett and Manson? Judging by the reports, Lovett is not expected to be picked up, so if he is still there late in the piece, then by all means we should maybe go for him.

I am struggling to see the down side

Rookie pick, base salary.

Was very good when his mind was in it at the bombers.

if he screws up he plays for casey reserves till the grass grows over his head.

From all reports he is one of those so I doubt we'll pick him up.

I think we will probably go with the kids we have training with us at the moment, if we thought Manson was worth a shout he would be training with us.

Perhaps we cannot get him south of the 19th parallel Robbie

Manson doesn't exactly live around the corner and I doubt he would be doing anything but running laps with LJ if he was at training. In this circumstance, he would be RD'd and then the process of getting him over for a run would commence.

For God's sake, how many indigenous possible stars can we afford to support???!!! We already have Jetta, who is the slowest aborigine in Australia. Jurrrah who won't play defensively. Davey, who has completely dropped his head because he has now earnt a direct opponent, and Bennel who is petrified of physical contact.

So let's not just take on a skinny Northern WA kid who turned up to draft camp with nothing but a pair of thongs, and burst into tears and went home early b/c the questions were too hardl; let's also pick up Lovett. FFS, we don't have enough trouble carrying Sylvia's boganesque behaviour. Why not add to it. I'm sure Lovett will give us 2 - 3 amazing flashy games amongst his 19 - 20 bullish!t not-getting-near-the pill games.

Political correctness will be the death of this club. I love Aaron Davey, and I am hopeful about Liamh Jurrah, but we've already taken on to much risk and it's already bitten us in the arse.

I'll laze back now and wait for the moral minority to tell me how racist I am.

No point you being subtle on here, why don't you tell us how you really feel.

Nice. Pigeon holing an entire race. Your assertion that the issue is purely down to players being indigenous is offensive. These boys aren't alone in underachieving. Underachievment has been a blight on our club for years and has nothing to do with cultural difference. A culture of indifference has been a bigger problem. A culture that has accepted mediocrity has been a bigger problem.

What about the indigenous talent we didn't draft, but were in a position to do so? Were we correct in passing on Adam Goodes? Michael O'Loughlin? Cyril? Did we get those right?

If Lance Franklin were a free agent and listed Melbourne as his preferred club, would you suggest we give him a miss? I'm not saying the boys you've singled out don't deserve a spray, but your focus is far too narrow. Far more players than you've named have been mollycoddled and given more leeway than they should have.

Nice argument, except Lance Franklin's from Pakistan. And they're no good either!

It was about being [censored] up and driving a car and then leaving the scene of an accident the night before an international representative training day.

I presume though, you're intimating that my criticism of some of our indigenous players doesn't fit with the latte-sipping pseudo-intellects here who have no experience with the topic. Hooray for you. They're saved!

I don't want him at the club. Most others here don't want him either. Our coaching staff and recruiters don't want him.

At least I have the balls to say why.

Not at all... just your generally unwarranted aggressive tone tends to slot right into the bogan profile.

Nice deflection. So you've slagged off bogan's, pseudo-intellectuals and at last count 2 races.

Did you not get hugged as a child?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
