The Josh Toy Thread

Featured Replies

Best mate's brother, he is a ripper bloke too, coming back for the next week or so as well. Didnt get much of a run in gold coast coz they didnt think he was fit enough, is a serious weapon, and would slot right into our backline, freeing tapscott and grimes up to more midfield roles.

Hell yes, if he's home sick we should target this kid big time! He'll be a star I have no doubt. I made mention in another thread that I reckon we should target Jordan Russell, but I'd be even happier with Josh Toy, can play the same type of role to free up a Grimes, Blease or Bail etc to spend more time in the midfield.

Question mark will be over his ability to shut an opponent down, can he play on the oppositions best smalls?

If we can get a draft pick in the mid 20's for Warnock & our 3rd round pick then maybe Maric and that pick in the mid 20's could get the deal done?

Why not a straight swap with GCS? Could imagine they would love a big bodied full back, to support Campbell Brown at CHB!

Not a bad suggestion given Matthew Warnock appears headed in that direction.

I don't think Josh Toy and Matthew Warnock will ever, ever be a straight swap in a trade. It would have to include picks and it would be heavily weighted to Gold Coast. ie. It would most likley cost a compensation pick and then some.

Yes it was North

I'd say no to North too if their best was pick 18.

What about a swap of Morton for Toy?

Trade week radio now suggesting Warnock to GCS.

could we potentially get Toy in return, maybe we give up a 3rd rounder as well to even it out?

Would need to be Warnock and at least one first round pick for Toy, possibly two. Would have been top 3 in last years draft if he was not taken early. Didn't star last year, but is very hightly rated.

fair enough, wont happen then.

I'd do it.

Warnock for Toy won't happen wasn't Toy a top 5 pick only last year? Or was he one of the GC early 17yo picks? Either way we'd have to offer a lot more than just Warnock and a 2nd-3rd round pick.

I don't know enough about Toy... what role in defence would he play? Looking at his height he isn't overly tall, so is he competing for the 3rd tall? or is he a "quarterback" (Don't like the use of this term) or more a running defender?

If he was rated top 5, and has had a year in the system, I suspect Warnock would be bundled with a compensation pick at least.... and if we are still in the running regarding the 17yr old mini draft that might have to play out first.

I thought he was seen as more of a midfielder than a defender but I'm only going on memory of reports from 1-2 years ago. Can't remember seeing him play either.

Umm Campbell Brown does play tall but he is 179 cm - not quite CHB

Can Toy be traded??? Isnt he suppossed to be at GC for another year. Total 2 years before a trade.

If he can be traded;

I would trade a compo pick + Warnock in a heart beat.

He can be traded if he agrees to the trade, which if he is contracted but homesick could be a possibility. But yeah you would think that compo, warnock and possibly even 37 (If that was coming from Nth for Maric) would be needed.... doubt he would be cheap, and if he is genuinely wanting to come home ..... surely he would have been linked to Carlton :)

He did get injured at one point I remember, but didn't their player list get rotated heavily to get games into all of the list to assess where the list was at. So I reckon there would not have been too many of the 1st year players getting more than 15 -17 games would there?

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
