Should we be worried?

In a report on the training thread, it said that Dunn was contested by Hogan and Dunn beat him every time.

I don't want to moz this kid but after seeing him play live I formed the view he is the closest thing I have seen to a young Carey. I hope with all my heart he signs a long term contract with us and plays a long career and injury free with us. If that happens he will go down as one of our greats.

As much as he has some annoying traits, Dunn actually knuckled down and worked hard last season and produced some decent games in defence. Perhaps he's just one of those players who's seen the light and doesn't want his career to flicker and die like so many before him at this club in recent years.

Worried about a near 10 year player beating a kid at pre season training in early December?

No not really.

Interesting article in the Hun today about the Bill Vlahos Betting Scheme that has gone belly ( now there is a surprise ).

$180 million is said to have vanished.

One of the big losers is said to be "Former Melbourne Demons President Mr Don Mclarty"

My god what makes seemly intelligent people invest in these things.

And we wonder my the MFC has floundered in recent years.

Does make you wonder.

A month or two ago on his radio show, Red Symons said he had once briefly met Tom Waterhouse. As part if the discussion, he told Tom he 'never bet on anything'.

Tom replied 'you should come and work for me'.

Does make you wonder.

why...must be so hard keeping tabs on it all, must be very easy to mislay a million here, couple there....whole truckloads somewhere else..

Hoping to get down to training on wednesday.

Hoping to get down to training on wednesday.

I was going today Redleg as I was in the area but when the rain hit I bailed.

I have seen enough poor ball handling to last me a lifetime in 2013.

I plan to go Wednesday if it is dry.

Might see you there if I am free.

PS. Read my last post on the AFL Officials thread and post what you think.

Wonder if CAC is regretting his move from footy to racing. He left the Tigers for BC3 Thoroughbreds which is headed by the same guy being questioned over the missing punters club millions.

PS. BC3 is also apparently in default of payment to Inglis Thoroughbred Auctions, for the purchase of the $5m colt that will never race, but is recovering from a spider bite.

PPS. CAC is a decent guy and in no way do I suggest he has done anything wrong.

Yes I did Redleg and I agree that there are incontinences it our treatment on this issue.

However IMO the AFL has always been thus and will be in the future.

I never thought we would get a PP in 2013.

We had just been done for tanking and had displayed over the previous 5 -6 years the worse management this century.

The cry that the MFC had plenty of help to rise and completely messed it up and did not deserve a PP held some water IMO.

I tend to think in the long term no PP this year might actually make us better.

We have to get over the hand out mentality and get on with picking good players and building a good list.

I think there is a lot more to come on this subject Redleg.

It will be the subject for a very good story when all is revealed over the next couple of years.

ah good. i'll let you get back to your punishment meditation sessions

i hope you haven't got them in the same cell

Does make you wonder.

It is all starting to sound very dodgy. An assault and a car being torched down at Connewarre, unpaid bills for horses and payments to tax havens in Bermuda! Promises of 25% returns on punting? A sensible person wouldn't go near it unless you are interested in tax avoidance, money laundering or alternatively you are just plain stupid?

In Don's case it could just be the latter.

could be just plain greed

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
