It's going to be an anti-climax once they've done the draft.

What do we count down to after that?

The end of the tanking "Inquisition".

It looks so lonely.

Redleg, there's always the Pre-Season Draft countdown.

Although, that could be a non-event.

There's always the Mayan calendar ending on Dec 21st to fall back on... :)

How on earth do you start that one?

Hire a former special ops investigator and get them to intimidate anyone and everyone, for as long as it takes?

Sorry H_T I meant how do you start a countdown when the end date is any time between now and this time next year?

does anyone know when Rangey is due back? He must be chaffing at the bit to get back to DL.

its Dee Day :)

Someone posted that it is not entirely impossible to argue that Toumpas and Viney could both have been in the top 3 of this draft and Toumpas maybe even 1. If we do get Jimmy, then for 4 and 28 we have done brilliantly.

For the ex player we have got Hogan, Dawes and Barry. You would have to say that is brilliant as well, especially in light of his first season with GWS.

Then to add Pedersen, Rodan, Byrnes and another couple tonight is a really good turn around of our list.

Not according to a media person called Damien Barrett who thinks we've taken a random "scattergun" approach to recruiting.

Agree redleg we have certainly made a lot of changes and they look good so far

however I now take draft picks with a grain of salt.

Based on previous experience with a lot of our early picks I will wait a year or two before I fall in love with the recuiting in 2012.

I met a Damien once... he was a dick too

When what we do is criticised and then when another for exactly the same is praised, I say to myself that the reviewer is either a fool or has an agenda. Having heard Barrett and even spoken to him, I would assume the former.

However, we seem to get that reaction from several in the media and I wonder if it is because we have alienated them by our conduct.

Clearly Wilson and Bartlett dislike CS and that is obvious by their behaviour. KB won't even be in the same room as CS and in fact walked out of an interview with him and another SEN colleague.

It may behove us to repair some relationships in the media.

or in the case of those three, ban them from all club/player interviews and inform them why

let them eat cake or do the repairing

You would want it well publicised in other media, what we are doing and why. I could see them slagging off much more, rather than looking for a slice of banana bread.

Something along the lines of " due to constant unfair editorializing, rather than reporting and blatant attacks on the MFC and some of its staff, the MFC at this time has no faith in the named personnel acting in a fair and reasonable manner towards the club and its staff". "The club is ready and willing to discuss the situation with the named media memebers if they wish to do so. A failure to do so will be regarded as an acknowledgement by them of their unwillingness and inability to treat the club and its staff fairly and impartially."

PS. If it is good enough for KB to refuse to speak to CS despite his media position because he feels hurt at his sacking as the Tiger's Coach, then it is good enough for the MFC to refuse to speak to him over his treatment of CS and the club.

Seems an impossible task to me Redleg.

I think the solution is simple start winning games and they will all shut up.

After their pronouncements Winning games makes them look stupid.

If we won the Grand final next year they would say the other side were very unlucky for a multitude of reasons.

IMO you will never change their attitudes they are cast in concrete.

You could be right.

I can see the excuses now:

the grass was too green,

it wasn't green enough,

the umpires killed them,

the sky was too blue,

it was too hot,

it was too cold,

too dry,

too wet,

the goal posts were not white enough,

the goal posts were too thick,

the goal posts were too thin,

the ball was flat,

the ball was too hard,

their jumpers were too tight,

their jumpers were too loose,

it was too noisy,

they missed Meatloaf,

they over trained,

they under trained,

they were missing their 37th best player,

they couldn't get tickets for all their mates,

the MFC cheer squad were being nasty,

they didn't enjoy lunch,

the goal umpire missed a goal,

the video umpire was wrong,

they had stops instead of screw ins,

they weren't allowed to train on the G that week,

their rooms didn't have enough decorations,

it was too windy,

it was too still,

there were too many seagulls,

there were not enough seagulls,

etc, etc, etc,

feel free to add to this non exhaustive list.

And on that note I will shortly commence the usual prayers and blessings to the recruiting staff wishing them wisdom in their work this evening. May their choices bring us Melbourne faithful joy and happiness in the years to come.

Amen

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
