Saw Clarry at Ciaron Maher stable doing interviews yesterday.

Update on horse he is in with me. Has been disappointing lately and it is having probably its last start for us on saturday, in race 4 at Edenhope.

It’s number 1 and prophetically called     “ centre square “.

Tbh, I only took a share, ignoring my usual selection methods, because Clarry was involved.

Have you ever heard of MyRacehorse Redleg? Apparently gives people a chance to have micro-shares in a horse.

Must be a syndicator.

Good way to have an interest in a racehorse cheaply.

If you like clams, I have Vongole running in the last at Moonee Valley friday night.

Ran 3rd, a great effort for a 9 year old.

Probably have 1-2 more runs before retirement.

Don't forget Centre Square in race 4 today at Edenhope, with Clarry and me as part owners.

Vongole having probably his last start on friday at Cranbourne in race 7 at 9.15 PM.

Still trying hard to win at 9 years old.

Won't mention the Dees atm, as a few of them are looking like they are retiring too, the way they are playing.

Strange this thread transitioned from bananas to racehorses.

The closest thing to a crossover I can think of is MarioKart.

Being the author of this thread I thought I would be the first to post under the new upgraded DL.

Go Dees against Suns tomorrow.

Looking pretty schmick.

Let's go boys.

Indeed, pretty smooth(ie)!?

Perhaps someone can help me out here. On another thread a poster used the familiar term "first world" - as in first world issue. Obviously, the term "third world" is used often and is familiar. But has anyone heard the term "second world" used or written anywhere? I cannot ever remember it being used - and while i can guess, what does "second world" actually mean?

Happy to help you out, Froggy.

Originating during the Cold War, countries were classed as:

First World - Aligned with the Western bloc, led by the USA

Second World - Aligned with the Eastern bloc, led by the Soviet Union

Third World - Non-aligned and developing nations

You're spot on with your observation that "Second World" is not a term we ever hear.

Thanks D, I've never heard of that explanation. I've always wrongly assumed that first world meant advanced countries, third word meant the poorest nations, and i simply guessed that second world was the inbetweeners. You live and learn!

What are you doing in here, Mr Stone?!😄

Speculatively answering my own question: Lifting its erudition?

These days they like to use 'developed' and 'developing' nations. They don't have a term for 'going backwards at a rate of knots' nations.

Another popular one is 'NICs'; Newly industrialised countries, which is a blanket term for countries which have added industrial capacity by underbidding developed country industry thanks to shooting anyone who asks for a pay rise and not minding if their is heavy metals waste in the mains water. Basically 'growing GDP, no civil society'.

An old one from 'Yes, Prime Minister', is of course TLPACs. 'Tin-pot little African country'. Never caught on in the mainstream, for some reason.

Speaking of smoothies, the banana smoothie still remains the best IMO.

The green smoothie can be wretch inducing, the berry smoothie can fill the mouth with seeds and the Acai smoothie can be very rich and sickly sweet.

Ran 4th tried hard and retired.

With Witts, Moyle, Knobel and Read at the Suns, Kalani’s choice should be pretty easy.

We will need to draft another ruckman in the next year or two, or trade one in.

We don't deserve daiquiries atm, more like mashed banana on mouldy bread.

The players and such perhaps but we the suffering.... I want a daquuri... or ten ;)

The good news 😀 is at least we are not losing by 15 goals a game this time.

I feel another rebuild is coming soon.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
