AS I said previously Mr. Leg we don't have anywhere to spend it.

There is no location now or in the medium term.

As far as you know. Who knows what deals might be done behind the scenes.

Oh, I see.

What suburb are you looking in Red?

Inner hipsville, old money or new money suburb, comfortable old middle class suburb, outer aspirational suburb, or new corridor growth suburb ?

Obviously near a very good greengrocer that can source the best bananas.

I am not looking, the club is.

We should have such a bar circle for the last half century WJ!

If you restrict your thinking to near the MCG then the two alternatives are Yarra Park  too many problems it will never get approval.. and Goschs paddock. Again I cannot see that area getting the necessary planning changes either. Net result nowhere to spend money. We are just going to have the win flags from the current facilities this decade. It is achievable with this group. Perhaps a docklands alternative? The options are then the suburbs.

This area of docklands has been cleared and is ripe for the picking. Stones throw from CBD. Imagine a training ground the size of MCG, a gym, 50m swimming pool, large indoor open area for closed sessions and, of course, an administrative centre.

Oh I dunno....I reckon a bit of land might appear at Docklands in the not too distant future ?????

A future at Goschs Paddock is not a future.  No security of tenure, a gym complex shared by others and no sense that we have a training or high class facility. Just not sustainable.  Location is great but it’s not going to happen there. We missed out on other key venues such as the Olympic Complex and like all other clubs bar Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton we will have to compromise. It’s about having control over our own first rate professional set up, it’s not about a social club that will only appeal to a few lonely middle aged males.

Agree, especially the bit about the social club. That is not where the money is made, nor is it an element needed for on field success.

So Docklands it is. I am always intrigued by the area known as north Melbourne when it is clearly West Melbourne. Not sure what our founders were thinking.

That's right... they are doing stuff with the club. trying things.   They do not rest on laurels, nor sit on their hands.

What have we done in the past 50 yrs.  zippo... we've talked about this or that, and done SFA.

Exactly, 'OD'.

But the responsibility lye with us, the supporters...  for our she'll be right,  near enough attitudes...  to our electing boards of past generations... simply following the recommendations emanating from the North side of the 'G'...

The conservatives have been rootin' the club for 55 Yrs. simply by being too nice... and too shy, too negative in thinking the supporters will support big major decisions.

We have been waiting to die since the mid 60's...  by just waiting on our fait..  thankfully not 'accompli'.. Yet.

Count down to R1, Red?

In that case, perhaps you can have a long sojourn from March 23 to September 29.

I prefer to save my countdowns for the draft.

I know what you mean, my past wives and mistresses suggested the same thing.  Really a win win.

A leave of absence since July 61 would be viewed as very long Ernest.

Same one DF, just sceptical when it comes to the last half century ramblings of new homes. Seeing is believing. The team is doing much better easy to see. We are in for a good decade.

Your almost as old, creaky and dusty as me OD.

As Leonard said to Marianne, i'm just behind you, if you stretch out your hand I will touch it.

Hopefully plenty of celebratory single malts this season.

I was born a far bit later than 1899 Ernest.

Well they do say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or is that abstinence?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
