But that was 10 seconds of an otherwise excellent match from Morton, in both the effort and delivery stakes. We all know his weaknesses but it's clear to me that this is being worked on and that progress is being made, and you can't change the complete psychological makeup of a player overnight. It's time to cut the guy some slack.

You cannot be serious?? Go and watch the last half from Morton. IN particular the last quarter. He was terrible. Doesn't run. DOesn't put body pressure on. He turned away instead of smothering a centering kick from the 50m boundary. Was directly responsible for two goals in the final quarter because he didn't contest bombs into the fwd line.

Doesn't run anywhere near hard enough. Hung Trengove out to dry because he wouldn't run 10m to present when Trenners was coming out of the backline under pressure. His hurried kick fell short and was intercepted by a Pie player.

I'd be happy if he never played another game in the red and blue. If he can't run and put pressure on he doesn't deserve to be in the side. I'd take Nicholson and Evans any day of the week.

I really hope GWS didn't watch this game..

I thought a thread to highlight the games of these to guys was in order. They cop a fair bit on these boards, and sometimes deservedly so, but tonight i thought they were both outstanding.

Bennell attacked the ball well, and used his run and dash from the backline to set up many counter attacks.

Morton showed much more pace than i thought he had tonight, and really showed what great footy smarts he has with deft little taps and knock-ons to put the ball out out to his or the teams advantage.

Morton frustrates me, his last few weeks have been very good and today was nothing less than that. He can use the ball very well, has good vision, and is improving in the contested ball. I still feel he need to put some more size on.

Bennell this week and last week has been handy down back as you mentioned, certainly a good young player filing the void left by Flash.

Correctamundo!

Was it Daniel Rich that went at 1 when we took Cale at 4?

Totally agree dee-luded. I watch Cale with interest each time he plays trying to forsee what type of player he will develop into. I am still confused.

I see a young man with good pace, height and a large tank yet I think he could be so much more.

The key elements missing in his game are intensity, lack of attack on the ball and his upper body strength. I have seen no marked increase in muscle definition in Cale in the time he has been at the club (Much like Bruce). What is their thinking in this regard? Are the coaches and fitness staff content with his body makeup? Where do they see him playing a role?

I too would love to see him running off half back using his elite kicking and pace to deliver up forward as well as being able to expose smaller opponents with his height and marking ability. Sadly, right now he would only be a liability back there with the lack of intensity, attack and strength he currently possesses.

I think with some serious hours in the gym he can rectify the strength problem, but the other two just dont seem to be there and without them I am a little lost as to where he fits in our or any side for that matter.

Yep, he's used these strengths Not for the DEES advatage, but for his own dislike for the physical contest, so has lasily used these skills to get the easy ball and to lope leisurely into space to play slow 'n' easy football around the back flanks.

The Flood and Press has ended that little luxury play,,,, that Yze, Green, White & Bruce, mastered about 8 Years ago, and it continued up till last year....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
