The thing is that footy fans as a whole are generally clueless idiots, and I imagine that those making the decisions realise this. If the club deem that sacking Bailey is the correct course of action, then fine, I'll back them in, but if they did it on the back of a few emotional supporters having a good old moan about one poor loss then we're in worse condition than I thought as a club.

The jungle drums weren't very loud before the wce game, in fact, many on here now having a breakdown thought we would win that game. Bailey must have been doing a decent enough job for them to think we should (not could) win that game.

We have had a few terrible qtrs and a terrible game but I will reserve judgment on Bailey's future until after mid season.

Needless to say, it hasn't been a great start...

Whether Bailey goes or not, we are still stuck with that leadership group...

I agree Nasher, but this one loss is a lot bigger than most others....This is the one that seems to be "The Straw that Broke the Camels Back" losing is one thing, doing it without any spine or Fight is just not on, after the 3 years we have already endured.

It will be interesting how the club handle this. They may just Bunker Down, but will they be able to do it.

I expected big things from Brad Green this week, and the week before and the week before and.....whats so special about next week?

You want big things to happen then there's got to be big changes made....not the same old again and again

quite frankly ...and i hate to say it, but Brads year so far is nothing to write about. Unfortunately he's not the captian we'd hoped for; he seems to go somewhere and be very quiet in games just at the moments youd exxpect a capt to lift.

I like Brad as a player ..last year was marveloous...this year lamentable...still, he's not alone

I like Dean Bailey and respect his efforts to build the team over the last 2 years, however Thursday night was appalling!

There needs to be more fire and less excuses. Paul Roos made some really interesting comments on Fox a couple of weeks ago.....why did we ditch Miller, Bruce and Macdonald all at once? We need some older hard men to fill the gaps. Dean Bailey needs to fire the team up and change the game plan...otherwise they should give Paul Roos a call! (Sydney still perform beyond all expectations and they remained tough against Carlton in the wet yesterday).

Jim Stynes was on 3AW today I think Bailey is safe for at least a few more weeks. Their is a planned board meeting on Monday, Jim did not think Bailey's position would be brought up as it was way to early in the season.

We need a top line coach now....Bailey is an assistant. I like him but he is not the coach we need.

We need to start the change this week otherwise the whole season is going to get worse.

Jimma deserves better than this.

I agree I don't think Bailey is the coach for us - I never wanted him in the first place - he is a 'no name coach' what's he done? Where is Connelly? Haven't seen or heard from him this year - we are worse this year than last - and why did we get rid of James McDonald - at least he he always gave his best!

We will know after round 11 whether he's staying or going. This is Bail's last stand for sure. If our board and others within the football dept have some balls, they will be telling him the same. 2nd best and accepting mediocrity within this club has been tolerated for decades. Enough is enough. And the bulk of us have had enough!! (i think) B)

While the various critiques of our game plan or its absence are valid, a recent look at the past two premiership coaches shows that they both deviated from the norm in developing a new game plan (different to the successful teams at the time). Both Malthouse and Thompson had to wear the flack of poor performances while their respective teams matured to the point they could effectively implement their new game plan. Both Clubs had to show faith in their coaches during these periods and not succumb to the "beating drums" of the short term needs of some supporters.

A key strength Bailey has is his unflappable self belief and his consistent building of a team that will one day (soon hopefully) be able to implement it successfully. For supporters to erode and hassle the MFC admin to abandon and sack Bailey, his game plan, etc... is only going to set us back.

When Bailey came we desperately needed to rejuvinate our playing list, he has done this successfully, at the expense of his own win-loss record.

With a new list we needed to blood kids and build their bodies, game time and experience, he is doing this, often at the expense of his own win-loss record (i.e. Junior and Bruce decisions).

The next step is to pull the pieces, players, tactics, etc together into a rigid disciplined gameplan that suits the strengths of this new team, he is doing this. According to Schwab this phase of transformation is not expected to be complete till then end of next year. According to Viney we have to focus on teaching the new kids the fundamentals (body position, awareness, etc...) prior to focusing on game tactics...

Last Thursday resulted from a combination of the ups and downs of the process Bailey was employed to undertake, and a failing of senior players to perform at the level they should.

Bailey will guide Melbourne to their next premiership. Great clubs support their coaches to do the jobs they were hired to do. They don't flinch, dither and look for easy outs when the going gets tough.

Last thursday cannot be acceptable at anytime in a clubs cycle. It is not part of the process. Please do not kid yourself with that.

We have almost a full list to pick from and we served up that.

From the first bounce....that game was believable in 2008-NOT 3 years later.

We all are suffering bruised egos from last thursday, and all agree it was not acceptable.

But to make a decision about Baileys tenure while suffering the bruised ego will lead people to roll out things like Bailey win loss record as "justification", when in fact his poor win loss is a direct result of him being committed to the rebuild.

This angry search for a scape goat to hold all the blame is making me ill.

22 men play the game, one (of several) men coach it, fans have honed in on Bailey. I think they are misguided.

The reason given was that we're not in premiership mode. Nor are Essendon, but they clearly have a different view on how to get a team in premiership mode.

And unless being hopelessly vulnerable against the forward press in 2011 is going to win a flag in 2014 then I'd suggest we need to reconsider our direction. Wouldn't you ?

We are a Football club first and not some Sporting Benevolent Society..and thats exactly what I wrote the club.

Its nice to bring nice young men on and give them happy futures and balanced outlooks... but lets triy winning a premiership firsit huh MFC...thats why I pay up each year.
