Robbing Peter to pay Paul IMO. As far as I'm concerned he's allowed to play in the midfield when there's an adequate replacement for him in the back line.

It's not, when our midfield is currently in a worse position than our backline.

It's time to start putting some serious game time into Strauss, and if that means we have to cringe through some average defensive performances than so be it. Strauss has a killer kick and is the prototype of a half back flanker.

Jack Grimes is a midfielder. He was drafted as one, played as one all through his junior career and we could really use his skills and play- reading ability in the middle.

I'm not even worried if he plays as a true half back flanker, but don't plonk him on Angus Monfries on the last line of defense and waste his talent with 20m sideways kicks. That sh*ts me to absolute tears.

Grimes had a good game, his apparent poor decision making/disposal was due mostly to a lack of clear options available coming out. Mostly due to the high work-rate and desperation of the Bombers.

Who remembers Jack's game at Optus Oval in a practice match against The Scum last year? He played in the midfield and racked up 30+ possessions and kicked 3 goals in a losing side. This kid could easily slot into the midfield if we could plug a hole left in the backline.

Great sides have gun midfielders, but great sides also have generals down back, who usually play the half back flank role and set the tone for the side. The last 4 premierships have featured Maxwell, Harley and Hodge on half back flanks.

The midfield got a caning last night but a lot of that was also due to the backlines rubbish skills and the forwards lack of defensive pressure. Moving Grimes to the middle wouldn't help that.

i personally thought grimes had an good game for a team that played poor, he got plenty of the pill, but i hate the fact that all his disposals go 15m to the left or right, now its all well an good as i would rather him doing it than warnock, bartram and joel macdonald, but i would rather him kick it long to a contest, than kick it to someone who is not as good with their feet, in a similar or worse situation.

no doubt their is a spot in the backline for him as his reading of the play and disposal in most circumstances is second to none, but he has to be more defensively minded, several times he was caught of his man, and his closing speed is not good enough to give his opponent a few metres kick start.

I would keep him back. Give him liscence to go forward when he thinks he should. I think he reads the play so well that he is much better suited as a general in the back half setting up forward attacks. Will probably be a hot topic here in. Reminds me a bit of the Neitz forward or back times.

Grimes defended very well, however, as has been said, his disposal was not great.

The biggest issue was OPTIONS. When our backline had the ball there were either one or none.

That meant players would kick the ball back and sideways and be put under more pressure.

We need to take more risks, last year we played on a lot, which causes other players to move, bith your teammates and opposition. We need to move it quickly and forward, not backwards and slowly.

He is a STAR and could play mid or back. I hope he can move to the midfield, but for now he needs to be there. When all our younger players are in the team he may go to the mids and then we can hope the ball doesnt go to the backline as much cos our mids can be more dominant.
