1993 Fosters Cup Melb v Coll

The game with the infamous pre-bounce wrestling match between Jakovich and Gayfer. Watch how the trimmed down Jako recovers to take the first mark and kick the first goal. The back problem rares its ugly head in this pre-season contest. Also contains memorable contributions from Stynes, Tingay, Rohde and others. Watch for a youthful Schwartz and Neitz, while Pike makes his debut.

And gets owned.

You gotta remember, 45HG16, he was just a kid and Monkie and Ronnie were hardened campaigners. It doesn't bother me that the heavier brute ended up on top. What I admire was the willingness to fly the flag.

Yeah fair enough.

Does anyone have footage of him taking out Hird in the granny? Him and Ward were the only ones to fly the flag that day... from memory...of the cancelled game...

Remember sitting and watching this at the game and thinking our football club will never win anything while we have blokes who are more frightened of their shadows on the list and not prepared to defend their team-mates...what was McDonald thinking just after Simmonds got nailed...looks like he is asking Long if he wants a cup of tea...too many blokes who lacked the inner pit-bull....shame really.

Sadly we only had Schwarz. It was a moment when 6 or 7 MFC players needed to rush in and throw whatever weight they had around. Long shouldh've felt the full force of not only a player but of the ground. We let them bully us that day and it was a real pity.

My big concern about the current crop is Are they hard enough? Not since the Northey days have we matched teams for strength and desire for sustained periods.

Fair to say I had steam pouring out of all the pores in my body. Fuming at Michael Long, and fuming by the inaction of certain members of the team after this incident. McDonald was certainly one of them, first on the scene - it was more like he was asking Long if he wanted one scone or two. Real powder-puff stuff.

When it's a final, a GF, FFS show some anger and stick up for your teammate. Ox was fighting a lone hand.

Jeez, only watched part 1 so far but how good was Tingay? Forgot what an absolute gun he was. Shame his career was ruined through injury.

Spot on, adsy! Stay tuned for the 2nd qtr, which I hope to have up tonight, where Tingay goes to half time with 20+ possessions!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
