Yeah I get caught out by it too, I've been trying to write packers instead. but its hard to try and remember that :)

I tend to write Packers more than Green Bay as well so that makes it more of a rookie error for me.

Let's open this up to the callers, what teams do you refer to the city more than the nickname or vice versa?

Personally in the NBA, I never call the Oklahoma City Thunder 'The Thunder'. You have to say the whole name.

I abbreviate it to OKC or the The faces team...
San fran is always the whiners, or those pieces of plopcicles or... well you get the picture 😆
Always the Wolves for the Timberwolves, Rams, never LA...
Thinking about it, Denver is one I prob use Denver more than Broncos, Jets and giants over NY,

I think I'm more a nickname sort of guy

OKC is more than acceptable. Just never 'Thunder'.

The Forty-whiners has always been a good one and true in some cases.

Seattle fans use to use it a lot and 'She-hawks' was always a fun response before.. you know.

Yeah I would probably say Denver more, possibly Kansas City too. NFL is definitely a nickname sport.

Emmanwori supposedly hurt his Ankle in training today, walked off but is getting a MRI. even if its ok, its prob going to be sore for Sunday (monday), If it affects his turning then that would be huge.

Dukes up @Gorgoroth

The bitterest rivalry in the NFC West is coming down under!

Its either going to be the greatest day of my life or the bloody worse! And like So-Fi I expect to be outnumbers 80-1

On the flip side it could get a lot more new fans into the Rams.

It's gonna be great, this sport in this city!

We've come a long way from being the only kids in school with Madden 94 on Sega Megadrive 😊

Stafford in year 17 is your MVP

JSN OPOY over Nacua which I do not agree with but knew they would go that way even tho Puka was better.

STAFFORD IS BACK BABY!!!!!!!!

Bring on the new year with #9 under centre as we head to the SB at So-Fi!!!!!

Fantastic match-up for the game in Melbourne. A lot of the overseas games are ordinary line-ups but not this one

Tickets won't be cheap though. You'll have to pay a premium price. I'm betting the game will be a sellout, all the same

That's more expensive than I was expecting... And I'm in Scandinavia in July to mid Aug so I might not even get a ticket

Grats to Matt. Great season and well deserved.

MVP - Sam Darnold ! (wouldn't that be something)

Pats 1-6

Seahawks have been my SB pick for the past couple of months.

But the Pats have been blessed all year. Beau Nix going down was a huge slice of luck. They seem destined.

I'm looking forward to a great game

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
