Would be oh-so-2019-Eagles wouldn't it.

I still don't think I'll wake up to watch a playoff if the Eagles are in it. But that's important for Carson. To do it wit an entire team of guys they grabbed off the street, with his line banged up and Pro-Bowl TE with bashed ribs. Important for his confidence, and important to show he can do it like the big-time guys have with a rotating list of Wide Receivers.

Banged up teams can occasionally rally and perform well.  If you do win the division you'll be facing either the 49ers or Seattle by the looks of it as I believe the Viking are locked into the 6 seed.  Home field,  a fired up crowd and freezing weather and you just never know.  And you have won at Lambeau earlier in the season (with a banged up secondary)

And after today I'm getting a little excited about the Packers playoff attributes.  I reckon we need the bye in week 1 to have a chance ... new coach,  new schemes and a different way of playing benefits with that extra week of planning.  And Jones would benefit from a weeks rest ... he's been asked to do a lot all season.

To secure that bye the Packers need to win at Detroit next week.  If that happens and Seattle beat the 49ers,  Green Bay will be seeded no.1.

And I don't believe we're all that good either.

We've had the softest schedule I can ever remember but winning is winning and we've won 3 or 4 tough games on the road.  We're not out of it.

Well with just week 17 (3 points) to go up to 6 participants can still win the tipping comp (remembering that we can have multiple winners) ... podium places are still up for grabs as well.  I'm tipping there will be a few 'left-field' tips this week as that's what might be required to win the 'coveted' prize.

Good luck to all and thanks for playing.  Have a safe and prosperous Christmas & New Year (and don't forget that we've traditionally conducted a post-season tipping comp with predicted scorelines etc - more on that later)

Yeah it's a pretty good set up. If they're taking on Seattle who are spluttering and have Penny and Carson out, even with Lynch, Eagles Run D could make a mess of them. And playing at the Linc where they just smashed one of the better offenses in football. I like it. I don't think they beat San Fran or Saints tho. That would be one of the games of the year right there.

Saints, Packers, Eagles

Yeah,  although the 3 you've picked are the most likely to salute and you probably couldn't go any other way JV (being the leader)

The rest of us in contention need to go a bit different no matter when we put up our tips.

And all 3 teams you've picked have a lot to play for where as their opponents don't have anything to play for (except pride)

All 16 of the games are divisional encounters so we may well get some close finishes.

I contemplated going a different option on the 3rd to make things interesting but one thing I've learnt in this tipping comp & following this sport.. Anything is possible

Seattle have done it again ... another unfathomable unforced error on the 1 yard line.

This time around 'Beast-Mode' MarkII was to be enacted but they made the unbelievable delay-of-game mistake.  Unforgivable really.  Marsharn would be mighty peeved but their fans would be most bewildered.

To go from being inside the 1 yard line (with 3 plays) back to the 5/6 yard line makes such a difference.  Reminded me of when McCarthy opted for field goals from the 1 yard line in that NFC Championship game against Seattle a few years back.  Chose not to back Rodgers or our defence.  And yeah,  I'm still filthy about it.  You don't get gifted opportunities in pro sports. No risk,  no reward.

36 seconds between plays isn't it?  Rank Amateurs.

49ers now have home field throughout the playoffs and that is fully deserved.  They have had a great season and are going to be hard to beat in the playoffs.  The Ravens have a similar storyline in the AFC.

And we have a winner in the tipping competition - JV7 breaks through for his first win.

Well played JV and fully deserved!  You regained the lead after often leading earlier in the season and then sprinted away in the home stretch - too good!

And well played to all the participants - the comp keeps the thread ticking over if our teams fall by the wayside and acts as a way of maintaining interest if there isn't a lot to talk about.  I will post up the 'Hall of Fame' records directly.

But to the victor go the spoils

Took a year off from the weekly tipping this year but I think I did pretty well with my predictions.

2/4 division and 1/2 wildcard in the AFC. Cleveland and Jags weren't so great. Oops.

A yard away from 4/4 in the NFC.

There's a chance of 4 really good wildcard weekend games and then the two weeks after are probably the highlight of the season each year. Some really good games coming up.

Crazy game yesterday, thought Shanahan coached well in the first half and despite the ridiculous call on Garland in the 4th we rallied to get the win and go 13-3. Regardless of what happens it’s been a great season and return to the playoffs.

Tipping Comp was a lot of fun again this year. Unfortunately I missed out on top 3, the long term goal remains to get on that honour board :) Bring on the playoffs!

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
