@Dappa Dan  and others ...

Walk me through the picking of Eagles v Houston. Texans have impressed me immensely. Eagles have put together exactly one game in a row of good footy.

Is it because they knocked off the mighty Rams?

Ha ha!

Just a gut feel Dappa ... Foles and all that.  Home field,  trap game for the Texans.  Everything on the line for Philadelphia.

And in this unpredictable season,  most of the games are more line-ball than we've realised.  The Vegas lines have often been way off-beam.  More so than I can ever remember.  We've seen a lot of upset wins so we could expect more of the same.

Didn't Foles take over at the exact same time last season?  And then ...

Just the 1 point on offer this week but what a vital point it could turn out to be!  A reminder that week 17 carries 3 points.  The Rams look like certainties but finding 2 more looks tricky.  A number of divisional games and they're often close.

Anyway,  good luck all.

Been super surprised & impressed by the Chargers, Texans, Bears & even the Colts (guess a healthy Luck helps)

Who are people’s picks for the MVP at this stage ? I personally can’t go pass Mahomes. You’d think by seasons end he’ll just about have 50 TD & 5,000 yards absolutely extraordinary for a kid in his first year starting. Only 2 players in NFL history have thrown 50+ TD’s in a season

Rams

Bears

Broncos

I’m biased so I’m saying AD99

double teamed pretty much 70% of plays and still has had nearly the best defensive record of all time.

Chiefs, Broncos, Bears

I reckon Mahomes for MVP ... he's played great and he's also had a huge impact.  Donald,  Brees & Rivers have all been fantastic as well but the kid gets into the picture.

Meanwhile,  the Pro-Bowl selections are out ... Chargers lead the way with 7 selections whilst the Chiefs & Steelers 6 each.  Read more here -  2019 Pro Bowl selections for every team: Full NFC,  AFC rosters

Who's making playoffs from here? I had Eagles written off. Probably still do, but their season comes down to next week. Beat Texans and they are more likely to make playoffs than not.

I have it in order of seeds as...

AFC:

1 - Chiefs

2 - Texans

3 - Patriots

4 - Steelers

5 - Chargers

6 - Colts

I'm pretty sure there's no other possibility here other than the Titans pinching the Colt's spot if they win in week 17. Super impressed with the old Eagle Frank Reich and the spectacular drive to playoffs. Not sure what they'll do once there, but loved the run. And Chargers are unlucky to be in a division with KC.

NFC:

1 - Saints

2 - Rams

3 - Bears

4 - Cowboys

5 - Seahawks

6 - Vikings

There's a lot of permutations here. I have Eagles losing to Texans, and Vikings beating Detroit. That would just about wrap it up I think. If those results go other ways, Eagles sneak in. But on form, you'd think Eagles miss.

Fun end to the season!

Mine wouldn’t be too much different to be honest. Not 100% on KC getting the 1 with that tricky trip to Seattle but I think they have enough, I also have the Colts sneaking in.

I think the Eagles will give the Texans a good run and can't trust the Vikes winning out so the 6 seed is up in the air for me. Great few weeks coming up!

Rams, Vikings, Bears

Yeah Mahomes for me, and well deserved. Gee what a golden age we're in.

My question mark with Mahomes is it’s now a QB league made for passing, passing and more passing.

But then again I never expect to see anyone other than a QB win it.

I read something a while back about the fact Donald should win it. Or, if I remember correctly, if he doesn’t then a DT never will. Something along those lines.

I’d love to see that tbh.

Have had this conversation elsewhere. Donald gets double or triple teamed on every play and still leads the sack numbers. QBs get protected by officials more than ever. Donald is the real MVP as far as I am concerned.

I love you Clint ?

Wouldn't be suprised of a Baltimore upset at the Chargers this afternoon... Should be a good game.

Titans victory today now means that the Ravens need to win today otherwise they'll need help in week 17.   Big ask at the Chargers but they can do it.

Come on Ravens, get my tips off and running please.

Got to give some love to the kickers. The Ravens’ Justin Tucker needs 2 more FGs to reach 30 for the season, will become the first player in NFL history with 6 seasons of 30+ FGs.

Prediction : His second field goal of the night will be the game winner as the clock runs out.??

My tips - Vikings,  Rams,  Bears

The Ravens looked good and played well ... defense travels hey!

We might be having one of those seasons where any of the playoff teams can advance a long way in the playoffs.  Nothing should surprise as we keep seeing games being decided by picks,  turnovers,  fumbles and errors.

Chargers put in an average one but they've been up for the contest for what seems like an age.  They'll bounce back you'd reckon.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
