New England,  Packers & Oakland.

Another tough week ... there were 7 road winners in week 1 and just the 4 in week 2.  But any given week can deliver 6 - 7 road winners.

He looked very very good. The Jets D early on looked amazing, then he slung a few cracking passes and they dropped back giving him more room and he took it. His numbers should be better but for a few drops by the receivers.

I’ll admit I didn’t rate him as high as others in College but he really looked the part in that game and the Jets are very much a solid football team.

KC, Minnesota, Pats

Yeah they've all got to be road teams Gonzo and the Vikes & KC are at home.

If you don't get this message in time I wouldn't be too concerned ... we're all still sitting on zero points and tomorrow's games are tough.

My god. Some of these results.

Yep ... and the niners look like losing Garoppolo to an ACL injury.  Non contact too.  I'm surprised there aren't more ACL injuries on the artificial surfaces that have no give in them.  You've got to feel for their fans,  all the same.

The Buffalo win is an absolute surprise ... and to a lesser extent the Giants & Tennessee wins.  Bears leading the NFC North although any of the 4 teams could win that division.  I'd like to be confident in questioning the Pats chances but they'll bounce back as they always do.

Miami 2 games clear of all the other three teams in their division will have that city humming.

Whoops, there goes the season.

Have you 3 back-ups ... Mullins,  Beathard,  Heneghan?

Any of them any good layz?

Shame about what happened to Garoppolo ... if it's any consolation the Packers season went South last year and in 2013 when Rodgers broke his collarbone in both years.

Like no other sport,  your season is suddenly over without warning when the QB is such an important fixture in a team and then goes down.  Hopefully one of your back-ups can perform.

Man I’m so gutted right now. Can’t even watch any other games I’m too ticked off. Maybe tomorrow after I’ve slept on this.

Yeah it’s unfortunately a very annoying thing about this sport but it does happen unfortunately. I remember the 2013 Rodgers one pretty well, Flynn did a good job till he came back but it hurt the Packers a lot that year.

Beathard isn’t too bad, he’ll get the gig. He’s definitely limited but he’s at least got a decent understanding of the playbook already.

This is why I wrote Eagles off last year after Wentz. It's simply too big of an injury to come back from. Different circumstances of course, and timing... Most of the heavy lifting had already been done by Carson... But it felt like it was over.

Speaking of Wentz... He didn't exactly set the world on fire, but I have to say, I forgot how good he looks when he's on. Eagles season has started.

The reason I thought you could do ok without Wentz was that Foles had had a very good year under Chip Kelly (27 TD's and only 2 interceptions) and Pederson had a chance to tap into that.  I thought you could still win a playoff game but Foles went 2 steps further of course.

Plus it was late in the year and you only had to win 1 more game to secure the 1 seed with a week off and a home final.

With Rodgers twice and now Garoppolo,  nothing was secured team wise so writing off the season was the logical conclusion given the strength of both teams otherwise.  Plus the Eagles were a far better all round team than what the 49ers are now or what the Packers were in both those years.

The circumstances were vastly different although I don't believe anyone could have foretold what Foles went on to do.  He was 'Eli-like' for a month!

Yeah the question was always can Foles hold down his spot. As it turned out just holding his spot wouldn't have been enough. He needed to be a superbowl MVP to beat Brady, as he ended up having a great game himself.

But it's still a fair point to make. Making playoffs was almost certain by the Rams game, but I was worried about superbowl wins... and without the main player who got the results... I had to pick Eagles to not go far. It's still unbelievable even 6 months later.

lol... Not gonna dignify that Eli comment. ;)

Ha ha ha!

I know he plays for a rival of yours Dappa but Eli was simply great twice in 2 playoff series.  He was superb.  A big occasion player who has never been much better than B grade in nearly all his regular seasons.

In swimming he would be regarded as a negative-splitter ... some players are like that - they need the brightest lights shining on them to perform at their best.  Foles was like that too and I hope he gets another shot at that glory.

You've got a more than handy back-up to Wentz but I'm betting that the 49ers wouldn't mind him on their roster right now.

Apart from tomorrow's game ( Pittsburgh @ Tampa) there's a beauty coming up this Friday - Vikings @ Rams.  A big big game for more than a few reasons.

And no one scored a point in the comp so we're all still in the Gold medal position!

Massive results... what a start to the season in terms of upsets.

Could not believe the Bills the the Lions spank the Pats...

onto to my boys, another bloody good show but at a massive cost, Talib with an ankle, hope he plays thur night, Peters our 2-4 weeks, and whitworth also might miss. Eeek.

Peters should be back for the hard run of Packers, Saints, Seahawks then chiefs. Will need him for those.

only given up 199.3 yards in the air so far this year.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
