Yeah I understand that. But the thing is, people need a start somewhere. You dont actually know anybody can coach, until they have coached. Sometimes you need to take the risk to get to get a high reward and finding a gem. Scotty West didnt do any of the above, and most have felt his influence to our midfield group has been great. All he had on his resume was super player, super bloke and super respected. Sean Wellman was also one who stepped straight into being an AFL assistant after his career and many are shattered he has left us. Max Hudgeton went straight into a premiership coaching team the year after his retirement. It is usually the norm for ex-players to go about it this way. Its the rare few who are willing to step down to a lower level and try their hand.

But really, whoever the man is that gets appointed (if anybody does at all - maybe we just have a rejig) they will be the right man for the job and we will back them to the hilt, experienced or not.

Lets just shoot for the best first before we lower our sights (or as you say take a risk)

Can I ask who the best is? I have no idea which established gems are available for poaching.

no idea either. I'm just saying start high and work down. I have faith the football department know what they are doing and will get the best available. Like you whoever they pick will have my full support

Given that Collingwood have recruited Tarrant, you would think that Presti would be delisted.

I think we should go hell for leather to get Presti as our backline coach.

From all reports he is a ripping bloke and he would have invaluable knowledge of how a top line club operates that he would be able to pass on.

I say we have a solid crack at getting him.

I like it, I like it alot!

I too like it. Obviously you'd want a fairly comprehensive interview process to let the club get an idea of how he would work with our boys and what his thoughts on gameplan are, but he's been a top defender for years and can probably teach them a few tricks.

What about adding to the old boy dream team by adding Jamie Shanahan or Anthony Ingerson

While I can't see anything in Shanahan, I was wondering earlier today if we might not see Ingerson around the club in some capacity. He was well regarded as a defender and is a good friend of Jimmy. As Hird is doing, Stynes is gathering together many of his old clubmates to help at the club. I wonder what the Febeys are doing these days?

Matt Febey lives in Tas and Steve Febey lives in Melb. Neither are involved with football, though both still follow the Demons and are involved with Mates of Melb.

Ingo is making too much moola with his property development/construction company and is also involved with Mates of Melb.

Presti coming straight out of the game and from such a successful and professional club would be an excellent candidate.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
