The only players on our list who who can play half back flank & have elite kicking skills is Grimes & Strauss... Strauss has played 2 games. Whilst we have depth in tall to medium size defenders who can hold their own in a marking contest, we don't have any real depth in regards to backmen with pace & elite disposal. We still rely on Davey to distribute the ball far too much out of our backline.

i hear what your saying....personally i'm happy to have davey continue playing his role across half back...when grimes goes into the midfield eventually he will play a similar role. and strauss to follow.

Grimes's kicking isn't consistent.He made many mistakes kicking out and in field play this year.Strauss- if good enough is a better kick-Gilbee type.

He's a good kick.

I have usually supported your posts- however I think this is a little over the top- it is always hard in recruiting- you never know how any player will go until tested against the ultimate best.And look at the above players you have outlined- all showed ability - maybe Weetra being the exception- however didn't make an elite player. There is and will always be these types on all lists- we cannot all be elite players.Lastly,I thought Kowal was a pretty good footballer -played over 100 games and was a midget at 173 cms tall. Bartram is a tagger essentially, his spot is the side is not solid & he is not a HBF. We don't even know if Strauss will develop so we can hardly say he is going to take Grimes place. We have 2-3 players in depth to cover every other position/role in the team apart from the HBF and KPF. In todays football the HBF at times is the most important in the team, they have the ability to create play, break defensive zones & lines, create the spare man in defence or midfield & join in the midfield rotations. If we draft players with more ability in this part of the team hypothetically it will free up players like Grimes & Davey to influence the game in the forward half more, we will become a better scoring side & make us a harder team to shut down.

I'm with you 'Bonkers'. I think It's the most skilled part of the ground.

The half backline, probably the most important for winning the game, over the whole 4 Qtrs. Same as Mid zone but more vision needed & disposal.

I remember being quite annoyed that they let that opportunity go. We've always hung on to serviceable players too long and not traded them when we could of. I thought they should have tried to offload Darren Bennett instead of letting that op go by and for him to go on and become an NFL punter for no compensation. So I'm all for trading players who aren't going to help us win a premiership.
