Interesting. Matt Burgan had him as a player Melbourne might have been looking at very late in the 2007 Draft, although he didn't place him in his Phantom Draft - he only mentioned him in passing in notes on a couple of team's possible selections. As it happened Freo took him at 24.

According to the AFL website he has not yet been delisted by the Dockers.

Clayton Hinkley???

You think a bored journalist is a more reputable source than myself speaking to Clayton himself?

Clubs can't just offer a 'one year contract'.

Which draft? or What trade?

Coming to the MFC. Offered a one year deal.

Wouldn't know him if i saw him on the street.

Tell me he is 196cm, strong overhead, a great pack mark, elite endurance and speed and the dockers are letting him go because of salary cap pressure!

186cm 78kg lightning quick midfielder half forward..

... Sounds like just what we need... can keep the others company!

I know nothing, perhaps he comes and becomes the game breaker we've been looking for!

Thanks for the quick info Dazzle

Hey Dannyz.

Whats his motive for coming to us? Game time? Home sick?

Coming to the MFC. Offered a one year deal.

are we going to trade for him? or pick him up in PSD?

Hey Dannyz.

Whats his motive for coming to us? Game time? Home sick?

He was told he won't be offered a new contract by Fremantle, and Melbourne have had contact with him and his manager. They've agreed a one year deal and he'll move to MFC through the PSD.

well this will be interesting, coz if we take hale aswell which has been rumored we are chasing hard, how many spots will we have on our list? especially with the elevation of jordie

Coming to the MFC. Offered a one year deal.

I can verify this one. Just asked around at work.

Most likely to be cheap trade or PSD.

Sorry to throw a wet blanket on the party, but Clayton Hinkley is hardly the big fish we want to land. Without sounding too harsh, he is a nobody.

So we enforced a strong youth policy by retiring our captain James McDonald, so we can sign a young Fremantle discard with poor disposal?

I am not "jonesing" over this move at all.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
