Mitch Clark

Its still probably a tad early, although i've speculated about this in the stickied post above.

I still think we need to address our delivery out of defence by finding a tallish player who is a creative user of the ball by foot, who also does the defensive tasks well. I mentioned that I thought Smedts and Heppell could be good options here, and are a fair chance to be available at pick 12.

Another one i've been contemplating may slide to us is Daniel Gorringe, the ruckman from SA. I think he's a top 10 talent, but the GC already have their ruck stocks sorted out (in terms of developing ruckmen, led by Zac Smith). The other 4 sides to have picks before us are West Coast, Richmond, Essendon and Brisbane.

WC already have Cox & Naitanui, Richmond have Graham, Browne and Vickery, Essendon have Hille, Ryder & Bellchambers, and Brisbane have Leuenberger, Clark & Charman, so none of those sides are really in need of a ruckman, but they could all do with some star midfield potential. If he did slide to us we'd surely have to pick him. He'd be perfect for working in tandem with Jamar/Gawn because he's very dangerous when pushed forward. He's not just a tap ruckman because he's terrific at ground level and he's also quite quick and skillful.

Pat McCarthy from SA is more of a KPD at 195cms, but he's quick, versatile and uses the ball well by foot. So he could be that 3rd tall defender behind Frawley & Garland and give us something a bit different.

Keiran Harper's another I like the look of, and he's from the same school as Blease & Gysberts came from (Yarra Valley Grammer) fwiw. Tallish, quick & skillful high-half forward/mid and you can never do with enough of those types...

I agree with what you've said. I like Gorringe from the video's I've seen of him as you say below the knees & his mobility & getting to the play, but seems good in the air as well. so I can see, (as no doubt all would be able to see), that he's a talent.

Our decision will be a tough one if a great Key position player is available at the same time. Unless, we get to grab another early pick through the trade table. We do need a mobile follower to Jamar.

But we really need a great elite CHB.

Clark was fantastic last season and would be an ideal player to switch hit in the ruck if he plays to his ability. But.....

With Brennan and Rischitelli already wanting out (and possibly Drummond), I wouldn't imagine they'll be actively seeking to trade players. Especially after copping so much flak last year. I reckon they'll be fairly conservative this time...

Plus we don't have any really tradeable players of the sort of currency the Lions'd be interested in for Clark...and I think we could also put pick 12 to better use too...

I don't reckon the Lions will let their club totally fall apart. I think we'll see FEV leave, to return to Melbourne, & that will IMO relieve quite a bit of tension up their in Brisbane.

Fev's in Tropical waters again.

Pick #12 for Clark is not so bad. I guess we will be leaning at either a big body or the best available with pick #12. Would a big end up being as good as Clark? Hard to say, as he still has some upside and development in him. Could be a big help down forward and in the ruck.

Not the worst idea.

Horrible idea, this year's draft is the goods. Pick 12 is worth a WHOLE lot more than Mitch Clark, trust me on that one.

Your Dreamin, he will stay with the Lions.

I'm sure Barry Prendergast has a much better idea though haha.

I wonder what he is thinking...

That is what we are guessing in our posts-aren't we?

I heard he doesn,t, he's just 'lucky', apparently, I've been told by a spotter, that 'Pren' takes his darts out & closes his eyes, taking aim at the board with pictures posted on it. A white board I think. :)

Footy show reporting he wants out of brisbane, requesting trade to freo. Chase him hard.

Why Freo of all clubs? Is he from WA?

He is, of course.

Footy Show, that is Hutchy says Freo don't have the picks to get this done so probably won't.

Would be very happy if we could get him, but unlikely.

Contracted for next year so Brisbane hold all the cards...

Lets get Mitch Clark, pick 12 and a player

I would be dead set against such a trade.

Pick 12 is off limits unless it is an exceptional player.

He is not.

I would love Mitch Clark.

Problem is giving Brisbane something for him.

It will take pick 12 and something. I think i would! Not many agile 200cm come around like this! He is only 22 also! Perfect!

I think he is exactly what we need in our team to play KPF and pinch in the ruck with Jamar!

I really hope we go after him and convince him that the Dees is the place to be!

Depends on what player, but i would definitely be all for such a trade.

Maybe Mitch Clark & Jared Brennan or Sherman

Robbo on SEN just said that if he was at Melbourne he would walk into Brisbane and say to them, "let's do a deal on Mitch Clark!"

Robbo said it again yesterday, Melbourne should be chasing him and "he will be the biggest news of the week" Clark's manager says Mitch is going nowhere and has had a good discussion with Brisbane.

Is Hale a smokescreen?

Sorry confused with that sentence mate,

Are you saying mitch or his manager was at Melbourne yesterday? and is interested? or what?

or that he obviously wasnt?

I agree even i didn't follow it. Fixed (I hope)

Yeah thanks mate, so basically has been mentioned by a host on SEN that (we should target him), love the idea, Mitch will be a revelation with the new interchange rules. Would throw nearly any picks at him, thing is he has to want to come......

Minimum trade would be 12 + 32 and i would be happy with that, i suggest the lions would want 12 + premiership core player

nice rumour though

Mitch would be a great fit, 12 + 31 makes a lot of sense. Voss would have to consider that, I wouldnt have thought, and we need the tall.

if you try to compare Hale + 17 for 12 + 31 against Clarke for 12 + 31 , the latter appears far more preferable.

That said Clarke may not want to move and Voss would be reluctant (one would think) to hang players out to dry after last year....

Mitch Clark is said to be on another fat back-ended contract, and that is why Freo weren't interested in doing a deal for him.

Whoever was in charge of list management at the Lions (Gubby Allen?) has a lot to answer for.

Throw everything we can at this bloke!

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
