Praising Bruce

Featured Replies

If you are going to be objective James McDonald had more turnovers/frees against than Bruce. Bruces game overall was reasonable with some mistakes, but I would say that the whole teams's performance was highlighted (again) by too many silly turnovers and poor disposal.

Some of those frees against Junior were grade-A bullcrap, though.

He would've got 4-5 for 'in the back' of which 2-3 were actually there, and were useful in holding up the play when the Roos had players free. The others were borderline at best.

very very harsh interpretation. Sure he didn't have his best game, but very harsh to pick him up on 3 specific errors, none of which were nearly the worst mistakes made today.

- Re: the one where Wright marked it in the goal square. When our player turned it over in the middle of the ground and the North player (Swallow) got it with space running straight through the middle of the 50, it is almost impossible for a defender to stop that. The ball coming in like that is pretty much the hardest thing for a defender to stop.

- The missed spoil was bad bc he over committed, however the kick from Harvey to Warren was absolutely outstanding and kicked it beautifully to Warren's advantage. Bruce should have just accepted that he couldn't get to it and instead just stood the mark to prevent Warren from running on. Was a mistake, but not a totally unreasonable one and there would be 15 similar mistakes made by players on both sides today alone.

- The 'hand ball to the opposition' was more an intercepted handball. Sure it wasn't a good handball and no it didn't hit the target, but probably 50 other examples of much more blatant and worse skill errors than that.

He didn't have his best game and got some goals kicked on him, but i think his experience is invaluable to the team and he has had a terrific season. I love the way he sometimes uses his body to ease the opposition player out of position.

I think Bruce is often unfairly judged too harshly compared to other players

Don't get me wrong Sylvinator, I rate Bruce and think he's had a very good year, however I just thought that when the team needed him and the match was in the balance yesterday he made a few crucial errors that you'd hope your more senior players wouldn't make. Come to think of it he also gave away a free kick to Warren (in Bruce's defence it wasn't there) in front of goal in the last quarter which he kicked.

As I mentioned in my previous post I'm not saying Bruce was the only reason we lost, we had some silly turovers, Wonna, Juice & Moloney all missed shots on goal late in the 3rd and early in the last which had they kicked we would have probably had the Roos. Bruce just seemed to stand out a lot more because he was involved in 4 of North's 5 last quarter goals.

I'm not bashing Bruce, I'm just saying it's a shame probably his worst game for the year was Juniors last. And for the record I hope Melbourne hold onto Bruce for 2011 and would be quite upset to see him go to GC17.

That was his WORST game? Gee, his BEST must be good. 26 possessions @88%. 103 coaches points.

Was very frustrated with Bruce's last quarter. When the game was there to be won, he made 3 or 4 mistakes that made it easier for the Roos. A player of his experience should not have made the errors that he did, and therefore, I believe he was a contributing factor in us losing that game.

I also think that Junior played the game of a retiring great. He showed in patches that he still has class, but for a majority of the game he was always chasing, looked slow, and gave away silly free kicks that hurt us at times. The Club's timing with him is 100% on the money.

Maybe, but its subjective. He does have a history of in-the-back free kicks

But I was also talking about disposal turnovers and up-in-the-air kicks

Still, I thought he had a reasonable game (with too many mistakes, like Bruce)

P.S. little criticism of Wona's game

Supercoach doesn't take into account getting outmarked by 2nd year kids. And if you turnover 12% of your possessions that's fine as long as they don't severley hurt you which is what happened with Bruce. He'd played a decent first 3 quarters but his last was a shocker, as I said he was involved in 4 of North's 5 last quarter goals, could excuse him for maybe 1, 2 at absolute most.

'landers,

I know its only big footy, but some guy is reportig the Cam Bruce has signed with the GC and there will be a presser today to announce the deal. It was posted last night and he predicts, as stated already, that the GC will hold a press conference today. I GC supporter has replied confirming their will be a presser today and a new signing will be announced. He thought it would be other players, but admits he has not be made aware of players names.

If this is true, i am feeling rather gutted. Not because i think Brucey will be a huge loss for us, but because I wish this announcement had of been made before seasons end so we could have frewelled Brucey. The guy has been a great servent of the MFC and I am sure i speak for all fan when I say that the opportunity to say goodbye would have been nice.

Anyway, it is only BF and this rumour has floated for a while. Let's wait to see what happens.

Sensible thinking.

Not actually surprising. Cameron Bruce has smashed Johnno a few times. James Hird also regularly mentions Brucie when asked who his toughest opponents were. He gets a bad rap sometimes, but there are a lot of good things that Cameron Bruce can do on the field.

Interesting to hear Hird's negative comments about Bruce during Sunday's game , in the light of Chook's comments .

I thought the comments had a particularly ,and untypically ( for Hird ) personal agenda attached to their criticism.

Maybe it's because Hird has never really liked Melbourne...

Well, this is off their website (via their Twitter section);

"1st uncontracted player announcement 2morrow morning! Visit GC SUNS website at 10:55am to watch the announcement LIVE..."

May have some legs regarding Cam, will have to listen at 10:55 I guess.

I'm going to have a shower now as I feel filthy dirty after looking at their website.

Maybe it's because Hird has never really liked Melbourne...

cant imagine why !!!

but thats all right....we dont like Essendon that much either.. ( sorry Ash exceptions )

You can't take that article seriously Demon Hill, he is guessing just as much as everyone else. It's a cr@p article - talks about Pav not wanting to discuss his contract with the Power???!!!

However, I think it will be the Krakouer signing too.

Billy, I think it is spot on about NK.

Agree on the Pav situation, one that gathers at this time of year except instead of the Crows rumour for Pav it is now Suns.

My point was that it was a cr@p article, that had no substance behind it, only speculation. And to make it worse he had Pavlich playing for Port, not the Dockers!

Wouldn't mind him going to the GC, or any other club for that matter.

I believe he has nothing left to give on field. His poor games are becoming

even more poor and his good games are becoming more of a rarity.

I love how people use pathetic stats to justify his supposed 'good games'

and I equally love how people in the media do the same and put him in the best

so many weeks.

* Can't take a tackle

* Can rarely execute a handball that spins properly and goes directly to

a team mate. Same can be said for his kicking. (In pressure situations)

* Doesn't do much off the ball.

* There is no urgency or intensity to his game.

What are Cameron Bruce's strengths in a game of football?

Would love an answer to that question.

Mate, what on earth are you reading? Is that link taking you elsewhere?

There is no mention of Pav to Port, only to the Suns.

Other than this the article is full of substance and 100% spot on, which will be confirmed in an hour.

nah they fixed that article up.. it orgionally had pavlich not wanted to talk about renewing his contract with the power instead of dockers, complete [censored] up

Haha, I swear when I first read that article that it said about Pavlich not wanting to discuss his contract with the Power. It has now been changed to the Dockers, but probably made me look like a complete tool! 110% certain it stated Power not Dockers.

Anyone watching the GC presser?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
