Was the first time I saw him on the weekend, and I have to admit, I bloody loved it! My parents were there and they thought the same thing. Yeah sure, he was a bit rusty on a couple of notes during the first playing of the Superman theme song, but we saw through that, had a bit of a giggle, and kept listening. I can tell you one hting though, when he started with "It's a grand Old Flag", the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I proudly belted out our great theme song, and a majority of the Melbourne supporters in the crowd did likewise.

I think it's a great novelty for the Club. They are trying to do things differently to the past, and if it creates interest in some regard, I think we keep going with it.

Personally, I was disappointed that he didn't play our theme song a lot earlier in the last quarter.

Before we go bashing this poor bloke, how about someone send a tweet to NJ, Sylvia, Russian, Morton etc to see what they think of it. Ok, they play the recording of our theme song as the players run out, we all sing and clap, but I would be surprsied if hearing the theme sone sang along with the trumpeter just a minute or so before the start of the game didn't fire up the players somewhat.

I think its great entertainment, has some character and who cares if it stereotypes us in some way - lets revel in it. The Barmey Army have a trumpeter who plays the theme from the "Great Escape" when they try to avoid defeat. He should play a theme song for the day - something that marries with a Demon event of the day (50th game etc.) if possible maybe a set up from the ground MC. The star wars theme - what was that connected to though? I think we want lots of Demon noise - that makes our players feel like they are playing at home - intimidates oppositions and the bugler is part of reving up that cauldron atmosphere.

Fire by Kasabian. Not sure how good it will sound only being played by trumpet though?

If I want to listen to Kasabian I'll bring my iPod. Good choice though, one of my favourite songs at the moment.

He should do Joker and the Thief...or Hunting for Witches. And I mean the guitar bits.

Haha I was gonna suggest Flux as a joke

(or anything by Bloc Party for that matter)

So far, we've heard "Ride of the Valkyries" and assorted themes from Star Wars...

What will the trumpeter play at our next home match - vs Richmond, Sunday August 8th? What would you like to hear him play?

I think he blows his own trumpet far to much. But seriously I think that old school sort of thing actually gives people like the 'silly old fart a beens' more stereotypical behaviour to beat us with. Being a Marxist i'd like him to take off his cravat and don a pair of overalls and play my favourite tune the internationale.

Agree it was a bit rough around the edges but personally I loved the Superman rendition. The symbolism of that particular track is powerful if you ask me.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
