I'm not sure if anyone has posted this already but was keen to find out if anyone else recognised scully's effort about mid way through the 2nd qrt on the weekend. The ball was loose and him and the biggest man on the ground (Hamish McIntosh) were both charging at the ball and he didn't back down, his eyes never left the ball and accpeted contact was inevitable, and as a result won us the ball. Even more impressive was the way he rode the bump to soften the impact. Just thought it was a great effort/ sign from the young lad who is just such an exciting prospect. I don't want to get ahead of myself but there is just such similarities between him and Chris Judd in terms of speed, toughness, agilitiy, both super kicks, and able to find a way to get the ball in congested packs, and the way he never gets carried away or lost in the moment (just seems years above his age in not only ability but attitude as well). Such an exciting prospect among many others!

I didn't notice it but it doesn't suprise me. He's one tough customer and wont back down from any contest. I'm really looking forward to watching Chris Judd (Scully) and James Hird (Trengove)over the coming years in the red and blue.

Yep. Saw it, loved it. It had a bit of a talking up by the commentators, too.

Trengove is definately something special. Hird-like? Bartellian? Who knows, but he's handy.

Scully I still can't figure any equivalent. I wouldn't say Judd. Some have said Cousins, but not really. My favourite so far is 'The Drafters' original comment that he would end up like 'a zippier Simon Black'.

They also reckoned Sam Blease, if delivering on potential, would be like Peter Matera. That'd be handy, too!

Yep it was the most impressive thing I saw all day from either team.

He will be a great player this kid and it won't take him long. I tip that by the end of the year his early career will be favourably compared with some of the early careers of the game's stars.

He has done exactly the same thing on a number of occasions this year. Good to see from a 1st year player let alone a veteran. He is a team lifter.

Ooooh. Those two aren't bad at all. Probably the best examples for both those guys. Especially the Blease one (though he's much skinnier). I've always been bemused by the Cousins and Judd comparisons. Both those guys are spectacular in straight lines (Scully's no mug either)... I guess you could say he's tough like Cousins and has an identical kick to Judd... but Scully's sideways movement to me is what catches my eye and seems the big difference. He evades really well, and nips in and around players all day long. Judd and Cousins just ran through them.

Just what I was thinking. BOTH Trengove and Scully have had starts that compare with a Judd-ish start. (maybe a stats suru can find something to support this?) Now we just have to hope neither jump ship.

Nice post, but no comparisons please. The guy is a player in a different era. Just when we thought footy couldn't get any faster, it has, leaving many players that were okay 5 years ago (Rivers, McLean, Guerra, Young, etc etc) look vveerryy ordinary.

Tom Scully is an out and out freak - he glides over the turf and is a 'natural' footballer. I have a mancrush on him. He will win a Brownlow and remain true to his team, not like that prostitute Judd who sold his soul to a recycling company of ill repute. I choose not to let go....

had a day off uni today and spend all day watching the replays of the 6 games to date and this is what I have notice... Jack Trengove & Tom Scullyare awesome, if they keep this up it will be hard to split them in the Rising Star award. They are both super.

Like others I say why make comparisons... these kids are going to be the benchmarks that every other team's supporters make comparisons with.

My feelings are no- he would've got us over the line in at least one more game(as he did for wrecked nosed eagles if memory serves correct), the Tigers one if nothing else.

Ahh, McMahon.. Just thought i'd take this oppurtunity as it seemed fitting to blow a little kiss, and whisper a little "thank you" your way once more.. you kicking that goal probably stoped my heart from exploding and delivered us not one, but two samarai pizza cats!

I will take people that can find the ball over people that can do magic when they have it. I might sound bitter to some but I would really like to think I am a realist, and the way I see it is that Nic Nat might win you a game or two a season off his own boot and go missing in others but fellas like Scullgove will contribute all wins and probably stop another couple of losses.

Anyway I'm sick of talking about that over rated pineapple that is on the cusp of being worked out big time.

Pretty damn similar.

Strange question, but...

I was referring to, and agreeing with the fact that some posters in this thread stated that we should not make comparisons with other players such as Judd, Cousins etc etc. I then extrapolated on that to give my opinion that rather than us making comparisons between Scully and others, that in years to come the kids in our side will be used as benchmarks by supporters of other teams, citing the likes of Scully, Trengove, Grimes, McKenzie and so on when trying to describe who one of their players is most like.
