Obviously not this week as he is still injured, but with Petterd out for 4 months, do you reckon Cale could be the repalcement here. The selectors cleary don't want to/won't rush Watts, so maybe Cale is a ready made replacement. Can take a good mrk overhead and can kick a goal...thoughts?

Not the worst idea. He's done well up forward in the past. Could also be a good way to ease him back into the side.

I'd completely fallen victim to the classic short-sightedness syndrome and totally forgotten Cale is only a few weeks away as a tall forward option.

I heard the opposite, that Garland will certainly NOT play forward.

Though that was obviously before the disaster that's befallen our forward line this season.

Good to see that Cale's in the Casey game on Saturday, playing on the half back flank along side Miller and Cheney.

By the way Watts has been selected at CHF for the match.

The word is that the football department at MFC (I don't actually understand the term 'football department' as it pertains to a football club... but that's the common parlance) have had Cale marked down as a KPF from very early on in the piece. (I've heard this numerous times from officials at MFC). I don't know if they're ready to put him up forward yet, but given Petterd's absence, maybe Cale will get a shot down there earlier than previously expected.

After Friday night we may all be discussing about Petterds replacement. From a selection point it is obviously Danny Hughes, lets hope he can kick a couple of goals and play well and he will be head topic on threads next week.

Cale Morton's best role IMO will be a HFF/Wingman, he can run all day and has spent time in defense because he never had to man up in his life. When he returns expect him either continue down back, or better still add him to our midfield, in 12 months our forward line will be one of the most exciting in the AFL

I don't think so, Not in the same role. Petterd with his nippy style of play where he plays reactively & spontaneously, catching the defenders off balance.

Morton seems to me more a slow thinking slowish reacting type who is better suited in more space nearer the middle of the ground.

That is so wrong. His thinking and acting in real time is brilliant... his use and sharing of the ball on the forward line for Casey on Saturday was nothing less than elite. like champions he may look half-pace but this is deceptive.

I don't see Morton playing around the forward 50 mtr arc as a traditional CHF or FF. I don't think he'd like the "Close" attention he'd recieve from the big defenders,,, so, he would heve to be a lead up mobile forward, yes another one, or he could play as an attacking half back. This of course, would be when he's put on some size & some strength, but I do see him as an running CHB/Wing.

I see Cale's role as a floater- someone whom can play wing but float either forward or backwards. May even make a CHF.whom has the tank to run all day.

If Morton had some size I'd play him forward. He actually didn't look too dissimilar to Petterd in his TAC days when playing forward. but if he played as deep as Ricky he'd get snapped in half.

We could try him there, but I think it's safe to say he'd be more useful following the ball or in the backline/wing as a link-man. Up forward, I doubt he'd have more on the scoreboard than Dunn.

I can really see Morton making the move up forward. He's listed as 192cm, but the player I saw on Saturday looked significantly taller than 192cm. I didn't get a chance to see him standing next to someone taller to give a comparison, but going on the anecdotal mentions of his still growing, I'd reckon he's closer to the 194-196cm range.

Agree I saw him play back pocket last year for some unknown reason (tank)and he was no good / Collingwood I think. Legs his length demand space - he gobbles up space I want him running up and down the wing. Being a leading forward (CHF / FF) is a skill I dont know that he has (I dont know I havent seen it) and it requires pace over 50 metres with multiple efforts. Anyway there are others for those spots. Get Cale on the wing (where he made his name) when fit and put Davey to HFF to chase down backmen and finish.
