Footy Show last night

Featured Replies

I know this topic seems to be discussed at least once or twice very year since Eddie left, but did anyone a) watch the footy show last night and B) find it was incredibly dull and boring??

Let me just say, Eddie leaving was the best thing to happen to the footy show ever.

As for the current incarnation, I'm not impressed. James Brayshaw is almost as bad as Eddie as a host. Garry Lyon seems to be taking his role as a respectable media entity far too seriously, and Sam is fighting a loosing battle to keep the show entertaining and in the process loosing his own grasp of what constitutes good viewing. They've cheaped out on the panels as well. Remember the days of three actual footballers being in each week? Why is it now only two? It's not like they have to pay them.

I'm still waiting for their preview of our game. In fact, not only did they not preview it, their half arsed attempt was interrupted by some stupid story from akker and Garry/James etc never even gave a tip. Ridiculous. The show has nothing to do with football. and Shane Crawford should never be allowed on television. He is a stinker!!!!

I really like the marngrook show - Gilbert McAdam is pretty funny and it has that raw style that reminds me of the old Uncle Doug, Lou and Cap'n Blood days.

Last night they had David Rhys-Jones on and he had the time to tell some good yarns like at a sportsmans night, not rushed and commercial ridden like other footy shows.

The indiginous news cross is interesting too

I am still a fan of the show and like watching it for a few reasons. Namely Street Talk and the teams. But the comedy and discussion that went on last night was so bloody dry I fell asleep before the end. It may have had something to do with the panel that was on. Not having a shot just at Brock either. Akka is an A grade goose. His cheap, childish humour is funny for the first five minutes and then he goes right off the rails. I think he said sh!t 3 times in the first 5 minutes. The running gag about 'bad balls' and 'balls' in general was schoolyard humour IMO. Crawf is much the same. Offers nothing but cheap gags and potty humour. His cameo work is good and he should probably stick to that role. Brock was dull and boring but thinks the sun shines out his arse now he is at Carlton. Loved how Gary thought they had won 2 games hahah.

Sam is Sam! I still find the foss quite amuzing. However he gets a little lost when he overthinks teh humour. The disrespect he shows some makes me cringe. The old bloke 'Cobber' they had on last night is a prime example. He wanted to tak the [censored] out of the poor bloke at every opportunity.

Brayshaw. Stick to radio. Annoying!! Enough said.

In stark contrast though to last nights show was teh previous weeks episode. I thought last week was actually one of the better FS in recent years. The panel was good etc etc.

I am interested to hear the thoughts of other on last nights show and the future of the program in general. I know a lot of people are just not interested in the show anymore, but I would still like to see a 'footy show' in some format on a thursday night.

PS don't say The Bounce..gave that 10 minutes last night and switched off.

"cheap, childish humour", on the Footy Show?.... No way. Its normally such an edifying experience.

Their is still a place for the footy show, but the truth is this thing had run its course years ago.

Every other network has tried to come up with a rival to the footy show, and has fallen short. The alternatives are not bad, but just not good enough to put the footy show to bed.

One day a new show will take the mantle, and when this show comes along it will be the death of the Shane Crawford show.

Until then, enjoy the same show that has no love for the MFC and talks about the same sh$t week in week out.

It is that, or whatever other medical drama/bored housewife/reality shitfest is on against it.

Say what you want about Fev, but he definitely adds an extra something when he's on the panel.

They should get the Ox back. [censored] commentator, but boofhead pannelist is right up his alley I reckon.

It was even less funny last night, I thought.

During an ad-break at one stage I actually forgot what I was watching.

When the break finished i was fairly disappointed.

ALL TIME LOW LAST NIGHT.

I finally turned off. I actually enjoyed The Bounce more than TFS last night. Now that really says something.

Sam was a disgrace!! Has out and out lost his marbles. Lost his notes and couldn't put together what he was going to say. Which was only a self indulgent rant about an article in The HUN. The watch and bracelet gag was sheizen. When he made fun of the fat guy who fell asleep at the footy a week beforee, I cringed. No Street Talk. Gary and Brayshaw had no control over Sam.

Shining light was Jude Bolton

Agree, I turned it off.

Turned off a couple of years ago. This post is a good reminder as to why...thanks all.

If I want footy discussion there is a good range of them: On the Couch, One Week at a Time, The Sunday Footy Show, The Marngrook Footy Show etc.

As for TFS, I spent 6 years of high school playing out almost identical episodes of wisecracking and childish tomfoolery in the quadrangle at lunchtime. These days if I want to talk footy among mates in a light-hearted manner I go to the pub.

How was last night specifically an all time low?

The show's quality has been in the basement for 3 years running. What you have mentioned above sounds like a normal day at the Bendigo St. studio.

If Australias highest selling newspaper printed complete lies about me and put it on the front page, I would be [censored] off as well.

And he told the guy he was probably tired cos he was fat. He was just being honest.

Sam Newman is awesome, he has so many haters cos they cant handle the fact he is more intelligent than them.

He may act the fool a fair but, but he is no moron (unlike Shane Crawford)

If you had of watched the 2 minutes of unorganised rabble Sam carried on with you might understand. It was one minute of pure cringe.

I like you remember my days of tomfoolery in the 'quad'. Thanks for the trip down memory lane ;)

agree.

whilst newman is annoying at times some need to relax and realise what his job is - to entertain.

perhaps webber was right regarding comments of the nanny state...

Edited by Grimes to Watts

Nanny state.

and he was right.

But it has no bearing on this - TFS appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Show still rates, and while alot dont like it, there are plenty that do.

I reckon people take it waaaaaay to seriously. A show that keeps rating like that after 15 years is doing more things right than they are wrong.

For what its worth, i reckon last nights show was ordinary, but on a whole i have enjoyed it this year!

Pleasure. Hot summer days, targeting the girls with waterbombs was the bees knees (until they made new dresses with a higher thread count). A simpler time ...

Entertain - yes. Interrupt and derail every conversation so he can have another "look at moi" moment - no.

Send him out on a Street Talk to Port Adelaide and leave him there.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
