Maric getting plenty and showed heaps. How many games he played 3-4???

Subbed off only played a half

ah ok, i was a little worried.

This is so f***ing ordinary by the Demons!

If champion data take stats for dropped marks, we may have set a new record tonight. Starting with Jurrah it has spread through the team like a disease tonight.

We win no clean ball from stoppgages. Our skills and decision making are terrible.

It's going to be another long year Demonlanders. Let the venting begin.

well based on tonight looks like Shane Crawfords spies have us pegged about right....Bailey said we focussed on kicking and it has been terrible along with any general ball handlng (cant pick it up, or drop it with no pressure) decision making terrible....dont able to hold the ball in and win the packs....cant wait to hear the coaches take on this...

Yep spot on. A lot of people jumped on Crawf for that article but he's on the money. I think we all overinflated our hopes of what another summer could do for us. Obviously not that much improvement on last year.

Too much handballing for a club with bad skills. I think our game plan should change to getting the ball and smashing it 50m instead of stuffing around with it

agree agree agree...how come we can see this, and the coaching staff can't !!!!

Where do i get the last two hours of my life back

the last mark jurrah held was in a german bank

Edited by Satan

We still have alot of the more senior guys to come back and won't have guys like fitzpatrick starting at FF...

The russian, bate, bruce, Garland and a full game from Davey will make a difference

Not even slightly concerned.

A lot of supporters need to take a step back and reassess.

More realistic expectations needed.

Looking forward to a huge 2010!!

Which game were you watching? he looks scared out there. No good under pressure and for a guy that relies on his clean skills they were woeful. He and Bennel will spend a lot of time at casey.

THought frawley looked good even though he missed a few sitters and love beamers work.

yep frustrating........ shall we be aiming for pick 4 this year. If we finish last and less than 4 we get picks 4 and 7 or something....

Ahhhhggrr disappointing.....I would say the upside is that we can only improve....but then again....

Goodness me, Golly. I think that call will take some beating for worst of 2010!!

coaches dont play the game...

Its up to the players to execute.

When under pressure they most likely havent done so...

im hoping he's being sarcastic/taking the micky out of another post..

You can't win games unless you kick goals, for the past two years we just haven't looked like being able to kick enough goals to win games. We can't get the ball inside 50m, we work so hard to get behind the footy, we just don't work hard enough running forward. All the talk we have heard over preseason, we showed nothing tonight. We start the year losing all 4 quarters, and the best thing is I think we play Geelong either at Skilled or Casey next Sunday.

On the positive Scully worked into the game, Grimes was OK, Miller kicked 2 goals and Frawley is a star.

No, we'd only get pick 4 for finishing last even if we get zero wins.

But you won't have to worry - we won't have a pick in the top 10 in 2010.

Yep

We have a young side, we got off to a bad start and we never looked confident or clean. We will get some poor results this year mied in with a couple of unexpectedly good ones. This is a very young footy side.

Freo are are reasonable side especially at home. This is not the same freo side of 2 years ago. They have some very good footballers and a good running game plan. Hayden and mundy destroyed us.

Dissapointing showing by our boys today, honestly would have thought we would have bought more to the game. However in saying that we were massacred in the centre by our lack of experience and big bodies against Sandilands. Really thought Martin and Spencer struggled against experience. Also thought the output of senior players played a large part in how the game played out.

Also our lack of experience was evident in the forward line was clear. Whilst it is concerning, I think it needs to be noted that apart from Miller, we do not really have players old enough or with enough experience to be able to stand up and kick 5 or 6 goals as a powerhouse forward. I suppose you could say Green could be that player, however it needs to be said that he probley lacks size and it's become clear that Bailey sees him more as a utility. I certainly do think that Jurrah will become this player in time.

I thought the Scully and Trengove played well, and only got better as the game progressed. These two look promising.

Macdonald was good pick up by the likes of him, liked his game. Also thought Morton did some good things, as did Bennell, Green had some good possesions too, and Jones was impressive with many of his second efforts, not to mention impressed with his sleeve ^_^

Thought Davey was dissapointing and Pettered just wasn't on his game. Will be interesting watching Melbourne in the Challenge series, anyone know who we're up against?

People are very harsh on Maric.

He hasn't even played 10 games yet, and he has very good awareness and agility.

I thought Strauss was good, and Grimes is, as always, a pleasure to watch. I like him in the middle, even if it will take him some time to adjust to the pace.

Rivers had a good game too, particularly with his disposable, and Frawley was great on one of the best forwards going around. He is in for a good season.

Realistically I didn't expect us to win, and while the margin is very very disappointing, you can see that the ingredients are there. We've got ourselves two seriously great players in Scully and Trengove, and McKenzie looks a ready made replacement for Junior. All we need now is a lot of patience, because these things take a long time.

We also need a forwardline, which is not going to be fully functional until Watts develops and Jurrah gets his sticky hands back.

...anyone know who we're up against?

Kilmore under 14's... jks, no idea!!

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
