Scott Clayton's Top 15

Bit of a nothing thread, but at the end of his draft chat on the AFL website (which was very very average), Clayton nominated 15 players who he thinks the top 10 will come from. A bit of a strange way to do it, but he does have a reputation as a decent recruiter.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/nabafldraft/nab...71/default.aspx

His list of 15, "in no particular order", was:

Jack Trengove, Tom Scully, Dustin Martin, Anthony Morabito, Ben Cunnington, Gary Rohan, Lewis Jetta, Jake Melksham, John Butcher, Andrew Moore, Daniel Talia, Aaron Black, Jasper McMillan-Pittard, Brad Sheppard and Kane Lucas.

Just though it was an opinion worth noting.

(Footnote: I know he's flavour of the month, but I really like the sound of JMP. Whether he's at MFC or not, I think he'll end up a favourite player of mine to watch.)

The most encouraging thing is we have the two best (by far) players and then two picks of the rest of a fairly even bunch. Effectively, if we are lucky and the cards fall our way, we could get 3 of the top 4 players in the draft.

I think that Martin is the third best player but there are quite a few after that that are pretty equal in ability.

Anthony Morabito and John Butcher will turn out too be very good..... if either slipped too pick 11 it could be the best drafting result ever (can't see Morabito slipping far, possibly but unlikely Butcher)

Morabito has some serious X-Factor

Butcher is a strong pack mark, good endurance and will be an Elite Forward

In my opinion these two blokes arn't that far behind, But clearly we are kissed too get one of the possible top draft quinella's of all time.....

Two more sleeps i know how excited the kids get about Santa all over again

I've done a conservative Clayton's Phantom draft, this should be somewhere near.

I'm concerned Port may take Talia, who I think is the most talented tall there.

1. Melbourne Tom Scully,

First round

2. Melbourne Jack Trengove,

3. Richmond Dustin Martin,

4. Fremantle Anthony Morabito,

5. North Melbourne Ben Cunnington,

6. Sydney Swans Gary Rohan,

7. West Coast Kane Lucas.

8. Port Adelaide Andrew Moore,

9. Port Adelaide John Butcher,

10. Essendon Jake Melksham,

11. Melbourne Daniel Talia,

12. Carlton Aaron Black,

13. Adelaide Lewis Jetta,

14. Sydney Swans Brad Sheppard

15. Western Bulldogs Jasper McMillan-Pittard,

16. Port Adelaide

17. Geelong

His top 15 is almost exact to what the result will be one Thursday.

Please Port and Essendon dont select Butcher. Though I wouldnt be disappointed with Griffiths, Black or Talia.

I reckon the dees could also get a good mid at 18 (other than Ball) like Tapscott, Bartlett, Stevens, Bastinac, Gysberts or a possible slider Lucas.

Too big of a call to make Daz. Best thing you could do is get that idea out of your head straight away, and if Butcher comes to Melbourne, hope that he can be a handy forward. Anything better than that is a bonus, but at this stage, I can't see it happening. I'll settle for a handy tall forward though!

Easiest way to look at it - last year, Watts was touted as a potential "elite forward". Watts is so much more a potential elite forward than anyone in this draft, hence he went at number 1, and this year, we are hoping the next elite forward will slip to 11.

Not a personal attack, just being the person that is realistic!

Many warned that this was a danger game and the Demons were totally outclassed all game by a young Eagles team at Optus Stadium in Perth as they were defeated by 35 points.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
