2009 Player Review - # 41 Rohan Bail

Rohan Bail – We picked him up late in last year's draft. This year has been a development year for Rohan. He has some really good attributes and has got good running ability. Rohan found some form late in the season and managed to play a game against the Kangaroos in round 19. Unfortunately, he only lasted about 30 seconds before injuring his quadriceps. That'll make him hungry for next year. Now that he's had a taste, he knows what is expected of him at AFL level. We see him as a midfielder/half-back, because he does run-and-carry the ball and has an enormous work-rate – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

I'm not sure that 30 seconds on the ground is a taste at AFL level!!

Disappointing that he copped that quad injury against the Kangas, i was looking forwards to his debut. I'll still be looking forwards to it in 2010 now. Good luck Rohan!

Rohan has a more mature body than the rest of last years draftees, and I expected (hoped?) he would be pushing harder for senior selection throughout the year. He now knows a lot more about what's expected at this level, and 2010 looms as a make or break year for this late draft pick.

Had a grand total of 1 kick in those 30 seconds- which I might add was a ripper!

Sounds like he has the key ingredients for Bailey's run and carry game plan.

We have nothing to lose with Bail as a late pick, so anything will be a bonus. Maybe he is the replacement for Buckley?

Do we need a replacement for a player who was not good enough?

In the games I saw for Casey, he seemed to routinely butcher the ball by foot. Could be a replacement for Buckley?:lol:

Fair enough mate, I haven't seen him at Casey so I'll back your judgement.

It doesn't help that Wellman has sugar coated every player.

He looked a likely type in our NAB cup game V's Hawks. Albeit he only played about 20%.

Could he become a tagger? Sounds like he has the tank for it. I have big doubts he would get a position anywhere else in the team with a lot of flankers coming through

Agree. I think assessments like Wellman's (and Lovell's last year) are pitched not to offend publicly while internal assessments may be miore honest and harsher. This may or may not be the case with Bail.

He was a fourth round pick last year. And you are right any thing we get from him is a bonus. I am not sure what that bonus will be. I seemed to be more impressed with McKenzie than Bail.

Then again he has a year more to strut his stuff and show his worth.

Unless he can counterattack effectively as well as shut down an opposition player then his future is limited. I am not aware of him diong any signinficant shut down jobs on any names at Casey. Although some one may have watched him closer at Casey.

That's what the Club said when they picked him up.

came to the club as a bit of a left field unknown. now he's a right field unknown.. Still much to see from him.

Was the player i predicted would get a rising star nomination and even win it so how wrong can you be

Early days of course but hope he gets his disposal up a few levels as he does have excellent running ability

not sure on a tagger role as he doesnt seem physically strong enough to do such a task although he wouldnt get burnt off

He must realise he will be competing with others who are similar build

he should take advantage of that engine by developing his hand and foot skills to gain consistant senior selection

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
