THE TRADING CHRONICLES 2009

Featured Replies

The Hawks must be offering up some players, as it stands now, assuming they use pick 9 to Port, there first pick in the national draft will be Pick 57, from memory each club must have a min of three picks in the national draft.

OK, I missed Demonland's post. Sorry guys. My initial intention was to make this for confirmed trades but I've been overruled by the boss!!

Post away.

thanks for your permission

Intersting that we havent heard confirmation of the Brock deal.. Must , to me , mean theres more associated with it now with interest in Buckley and Bell.

Really thought the McLean- pick 11 deal would have pre-empted teh Gibson announcement.

So it's lunchtime and where are all the deals that were promised?

Brock, Barry Hall, Jolly ?????

I can understand the Brock hold up because we're dealing with welshing scum but the others ???

SYDNEY has confirmed the three-team deal, which sees them lose Amon Buchanan and get Eagles ruckman Mark Seaby. In the same deal, the Lions get Buchanan and Brent Staker and lose Bradd Dalziell to the Eagles.

Well I have to admit the Lions seem to be refashioning a side with some definite claims to next september action. They have been one of the surprises for me this year.

Sydney as always seem to be able to deny the bottom of the ladder their presence. Got to hand it to Roos.

Not sure where this will leave the eagles at the end of the week

First deal done Hawks land Gibson in trade week opener

Gibson and North's fifth-round selection (No.69 overall) head to the Hawks.

In return, the Roos gain Hawthorn's second and third

were off and running now..:D

IMHO I think Hawks are the winners ... look around pre-trade to what 90% of all North fans where saying ... Pick 9 or PSD ... neither eventuated

Hawks got their man for a 2nd round pick (average pick in 2009) & 3rd round pick (very speculative pick)

Hawks (Pelchen) are very smart and seem to find the Roos easy prey every time.

IMHO its a classic example of the strong dominating the weak and something we must be fearful of as our list improves.

The hawks are really rolling the dice this year. If they forfeit pick 9 to get Burgoyne then they will really be scraping the barrel come their turn (currently 57 and 73) + 69 now and in course be relying totally on really what they have on hand. Big call !!

No, Hawks just prefer to trade for what they need, they don't seem to like their chances of getting anything they need out of the draft. If they do the Burgoyne deal, their first draft pick will be fourth round, unless they're prepared to trade some tempting players. North knew they'd lost Gibson anyway and prefer to draft for what they need. It's a classic win-win because both have different preferences, unless you think that Gibson's a gun player who's worth a first round pick.

Given the position their list is in and the quality of the list, giving up pick 9 for Burgoyne is understandable. Their window is open.

Let's be honest though, their list as is is very strong, they should be pushing top 4 next year despite this year's failure. They also have a few good young players (Schoenmakers, Moss, Shiels) and their list was the youngest this year. It might bite them in the bum in 4 or 5 years time, but I think they're doing the right thing in terms of seeking a second premiership.

Oh..its open...but it wouldnt want to get stuck or broken  or it might get a bit chilly there when next winter rolls around. :D

Not a lot of promising kids really at Hawkersland.. yep there in the moment...but moments have this tendency to pass awfully quickly ;)

The rules were changed this year. Rookie upgrades now count as part of the mandatory three additions. I'm not sure there's a minimum number you have to draft anymore.

No its the North people that thought Gibson was worth a 1st rounder & they didn't get it.

Essentially Hawks have picked him up for 2nd rounder ... good deal for them thats a good price in this draft.

IMHO Hawks 3rd round pick ... I would question whether even we would use it in this draft .

I agree - good draft picks are a means to an end, not the end themselves.

The 'end' is winning a flag and established players are more likely to to help the Hawks win their next flag sooner than draftees.

We're in the opposite situation.

I bumped into a few Demonlanders at the tavern and, as the game dragged on to its inevitable outcome, the talk moved to the trade week and the November draft. Someone had a copy of that morning's Sunday Herald Sun with an article that listed 10 likely selections in this order:-

1. Tom Scully (Dandenong, onballer) Melbourne

2. Jack Trengove (Sturt, mid/forward) Melbourne

3. Dustin Martin (Bendigo, onballer) Richmond

4. Anthony Morabito (Peel, wing/forward) Fremantle

5. Ben Cunnington (Geelong, onballer) North Melbourne

6. Gary Rohan (Geelong, utility) Sydney

7. Lewis Jetta (Swan Districts, small forward) West Coast

8. Luke Tapscott (North Adelaide, mid/forward) Port Adelaide)

9. Jake Melksham (Calder, mid/forward) Hawthorn/trade

10. Kane Lucas (East Fremantle, wing/forward) Essendon

going by that does that mean we can get Butcher at 11?

100% agree, though the Hawks are pushing this strategy to its absolute limit.

2.35pm: LIONS coach Michael Voss has said Tigers defender Andrew Raines will move to Brisbane. Richmond gets the Lions' third-round pick.

It would mean that we get our pick of all the talls at 11. Seems to be becoming more and more a midfield draft, which is why clubs with an open "window" and an OK midfield are happily trading away their draft picks.

LMAO .... Jade Rawlings and I quote ... "Andrew Raines would have to be one of the most un-coachable players I've ever met!"

Suppose if you pay next to nothing you can lose next to nothing. ;)

J Rowling can say what she likes about Raines.

She's an effing millionaire...

BTW, if he said that and he meant that the way it sounds, he is still going to coach him - Rawlings is an assistant at BL next year.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
