Our main deficiency, after the draft, seems to be big guys

Any young ruckman available from other clubs that would entertain our pick 11 or 18 for?

Luenberger? Renouf? Sandilands?

Forget about Sandilands and Luenburger, neither Freo or Brisbane would go anywhere near letting them go for #11 or #18...

In my opinion, our ruck stocks are fine, Jamar has improved out of sight (at least as a tap ruckmen, work still to do around the ground) and Meesen was looking good before going down. Put a few more footy seasons (literally) into Spencer and with Stef Martin able to pinch hit, I would think if we were going to trade at all it would be with a view to secure a key forward. I'm not aware of any key forwards available for trade that are young enough for the dees to consider making a play.

Yeah im not to worried about our Rucks,we have a few solid Ruckmen & a couple learning but i dont realy see to many teams that have 2 dominant Ruckman & we all know Hawks won a flag with no known Rucks.Port are back to only 1 Ruck in Brogan,Collingwood dont have much,Eagles only have Cox,Freo only Sandilands,Carlton up & comer in Kruezer,St Kilda has 2 but they are ageing & wont be around a whole lot longer,Geelong have 1 thats getting on & a couple more that arnt any better than what we have,Kangaroos & Ess would be the 2 teams that are the best situated i would think with a couple of good options at each.Brisbane are developing,Richmond have nothing,Sydney have 1 good but hes getting on,Bulldogs dont have much either so i thionk we stack up pretty well against most sides in that area.

If we can pick up Majak Daw I am not too worried about our rucks!

Isn't he 193cms and as raw as an uncooked sausage?

He would coming along nicely I would think! Alot quicker than Jamar! 6 years.

You need to tune into Youtube and have a look. Impressive and has tones of potential and atheticism.

Looks hungry too me and that is enough!

193cms I am not sure about. Looks more like 200cm.

People who think our ruck stocks are good are fooling themselves.

Jamar has played half a dozen good games in his career and is a liability with the ball in his hands. If there is any truth to the rumour that he would like to leave then our ruck stocks go from thin to thin air.

Meesen could be OK but he is coming off a pretty nasty injury and hasn't played much footy since he was drafted. He has a long way to go before I am comfortable with him.

Spencer looks like he could become a good tap ruckmen where his natural aggression and size will make him a battering ram. Like the previous 2, he isn't great by foot nor hand and needs to be surrounded by mids who will run to receive the ball when he is in possession. His rate of improvement is heartening so I am willing to wait for him.

Martin is the worst exponent of the art of ruckwork but he has the tools to pinch hit. A little undersized and timid to be a full time ruck but I could see him in a good side playing the Leigh Brown type of role as a utility ruck/key position player.

If we keep pick 11 and a ruckman is available and is considered to be best available or equal best available, we would be silly not to take him.

Pick 11? What about our required KPP?

Majak Daw with Pick 34 if he is still there would be my thinking.

Trade Jamar + another player to Port for Pick 8 or 9.

I would keep persisting with Spencer and a Daw.

11 or 18 should be used for best available. From what I have read Vardy is the best of an average bunch of ruckmen and could go around the pick 11. If he or someone better is rated at around pick 18, so be it. Either way I would hope we take the best available but if a KPF or ruckmen is equal best available I hope we take them.

You're getting dryer by the day.

Jamar was good this year, but will be 30 in 2013...

Meesen and Spencer look alright as tap ruckmen but limited in every other sense. Martin could be back-up ruckman for another 6+ years (it's all about the aggressiveness and assertive style, needs to learn how to kick though). Do I have to mention PJ?

If we trade Jamar, then look for a replacement.

If not, see whether Meesen or Spencer can progress.

Nathan Vardy will be seriously looked at at 18 I reckon.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
