The Gary Rohan Thread

This kid looks like an excitement machine with excellent attributes. I'm actually interested in him for number 2 due to his versatility but there isn't much talk on here about him.

I've read that Tim Harrington thinks highly of him. Has anyone seen him play that can fill me in on his strengths and weaknesses and why hes behind Trengove and Morabito in all the talk atm?

He was mentioned a bit during the Carnival on these boards, the thread(s) concerned may have been diluted back several pages by now. But I was impressed with him at the time and I still think maybe he could be top 3. Top 5 has been mooted a fair bit.

He has improved alot this year according some credentialled recruiters. very quick within the midfield/ half forward, good overhead mark, dangerous around the goals.

I'm sure he'll be considered and in the mix for No.2. Even though Trengove is my choice to go at 2.

I've been on this kid since the beginning. I don't think there's any chance he'll go past pick 5. Scully, Trengove, Morabito will be top 3, but Rohan could sneak in after the test results come in... Rohan will be a player, sure as hell. If it wasn't for Scully and Trengove being the standouts, he'd be perfect for us with his pace to burn. He really is one of those ones that makes you think 1 (or in our case 2) picks in the first round isn't enough for teams bottoming out.

Have gone back and rewatched some footage where i noted he wasnt the primary focus but still managed to get a lot of the pill... Seems quick by foot with a bit of derring-do about him.Good at getting away into space. Get the impression he really likes to make a play of it.

Hell whats another Ranga in the mist. Shame he wont be around come our 3rd pick. Seems a likely player Rohan. Probably still favour Trengove over him.. Cant have them all I suppose :lol:

was very impressed with Rohan.

wouldn't be a disappointed if MFC took him with pick 2.

My worry with Rohan is that after the excitement of his mercurial bursts of speed and flare in games wear off, are we going to want more? And is he going to provide it?

I used in another thread the examples of Wells and Thomas as examples of No.2 picks who thrilled early but are now leaving supporters questioning whether they are getting their worth for such a high pick.

What's all the hype about??? In one of his videos, he missed a goal 20m out directly in front. Next.

Seen Peter Hudson and Malcolm Blight do that as well

Rohan is one of those with the X Factor which makes decisions on draft day so difficult

?

He can run quick and open the game up - X factor?

If he couldn't run as quick as he can and didn't have red hair im sure this X factor word wouldn't be used.

I thought Rohan was the most impressive player on the final day of the championships, other than Scully. Speed, awareness, marking, the way he moves and weaves in and out of traffic, and his strong defensive efforts all standouts. Skills could use a bit of polishing, but watching him live you can't help but feel there is really something special about the kid.

Would be very happy to take him at 2, although i'm not sure the club will take that risk. But if they do, i have a feeling he'll certainly reward our courage.

but he does run as quik as can and he does have red hair.

Nothing ordinary about Rohan.

DB is developing a team that plays an exciting brand of footy. Rohan is a very likely type whose skills would fit.

I'd be quite happy to take him at pick 2 subject to draft camp results of him and a few others.

but he does run as quik as can and he does have red hair.

Point is why don't people just say he runs fast. This X factor word is putting to much gloss on the simple fact he can run fast.....oh and has red hair.

You an your pics! ;)

I hoped, a fair few weeks back now, that he might slip thru to pick 18..

But he looks top 10 unfortunately. Mora / Trenny for pick 2 still...........

So could David King but i would hardly label him as having X factor

Maybe he should have dyed his hair ?

Ludicrous

So tell me what YOU think X factor means? Or is it your six sense telling you he will be a gun?

No doubt he is quick and exciting. But from what I saw of the Championships, he doesn't get the ball enough. And when he does have it, his disposal is OK not outstanding. With our #2 pick we should be able to get a player that is is quick, runs hard and long, gets the ball and can kick very well. Rohan does not tick all these boxs.

I've seen him play.

The X Factor refers to the element of surprise and the impact that comes from an extraordinary display of skill. For instance, coming from "nowhere" across the pack to pull down an unlikely mark.

On the other hand I like the way he drills his opponents into the ground with a tackle - much like I've seen Sylvia do.

He woul be very hard to compete against.

Anyone got any footage of him?

cheers mate

LOL looks like Ron Weasley from Harry Potter

Is this correct?

Rohan has x-factor, pace but questionable kicking but and some people like him for pick 2.

Morabito has x-factor, pace but questionable kicking and most people don't want him for pick 2.

X-factor in my view is just a synonym for intangibles, which by definition cannot be defined...

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
