Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

West Coast trading

Yes Dr Jeckyl & Mr Hyde, I'm just speculating that West Coast may offer their first draft pick to the Blues in return for Chris Yarran. You're quite right there is a go home factor.

I'll also speculate that the Weagles don't care how many more wins they get, fwiw a deal may already be done (more speculation). (Gave up on tanking & priority). It may have something to do with their sudden return to their winning ways of late. Also a much relaxed looking Worsfold.

Yarran is a quality player. The Blues might even find a forward replacement, if they're lucky. Who would you take.....Hansen or Butcher.....or both.

why waste a number 2 pick on a croweater, they want to make sure he wants to live in victoria for the next 12yrs,thats a big ask, scott thompsons in the best 25 players in the competition now, who did we get for him, theres no way we won there, its a big risk but your seem willing to take it.

Because he is the 2nd best player in the draft... some say he is closing the gap on Tom Scully and the same reason we took Cale Morton at 4. Not many players get home sick if you have a look at the bigger picture. i think with pick 18 we should take Panos to make him feel better about the situation

mortons parents moved to victoria,i would like nothing more for mangrove to tell DB i want to play 200 games for the demons, but thats a 50/50 chance, but some of you so called draft experts a willing to take that chance, im thankfull scullys a victorian. ;)

I think your attitude about draft picks is becoming quite common with the football public and I can't understand why....

Yarran was worth pick 6 last year but somehow his talents drops to pick 22 this year???? all draft picks are speculative but just because the guy has one year on an AFL list doesn't mean his talent has dropped that much or this years talent would be any better.... In fact Yarran would have gone higher last year because Watts wouldn't be eligible under this years rules....

The football public has been lead to believe (mainly by coaches giving hope) that draft picks and rebuilding is the way to go. You may get a superstar or you may get a dud through drafting but people are happy to throw established AFL players around for draft picks????

?? not sure at all what you mean..as that which followed doesnt necessarily do it for me..lol

OK..in Yarran instance he obviously was taken at 6 (Carltons first pick )was seen by many as being anywhere from that( well 7 actually ) through to about 15.(actually Quayle had him at times as 2 ) Now hes played real footy and can be evaluated further. Hes still young granted and obviously verytalented, but if he were to be sloted into this years draft he would by age fall down the list a tad. Possibly not even to past 17 but teams ( this year ) with first round picks might well go past himfor others.. He doesnt have quite the same currency this year as last. In that...hes closer to a 22 pick than a 6 ( this year )..certainly not a 2...not this year.

But yes...eventually all picks are speculative.

this is exactly why our first 2 picks should be victorians, its not worth the risk.

Yeah Hawthorn F*&^d up when they picked up Cyril Rioli. Likewise West Coast with Judd etc, etc, etc.

Maybe Maric and a pick for West Coast's pick 6, although I'd be more then happy to hang onto Maric.

i like it. Maric and pick 18 for pick 6. If they don't go for it, through in our next pick, somewhere around 30.

Another option could be to give the hawks Jamar or Meesen and pick 18. They want a new ruckmen. we get picks 1, 2 and 7.

Imagine, Scully, Butcher, Rohan! omg

plus they are all Victorian

If that trade goes down and the Blues get pick 6 I'd expect them to take Butcher.

Aren't Carlton hellbent on getting Josh Kennedy back though? I guess that'd never happen, WC couldn't be that stupid.

Well it all comes down to doing due dilligence. You evaluate the kids.If after that you have a couple very reticent about moving..quite possibly , if you cant allay their prejudices, then give them a wide berth.

You cant dismiss the talent pool that is Australia wide purely on the back that a couple may not stay. You Do have to take risks, but youmanage and minimise where possible.

We wouldnt have Rivers Jamar,Meesen,....wouldnt have had Brown Dog,or the likes of Viney ..not for SA ;)

Its not to say you have to have them..its just common sense to evaluate them.

That's right, you take the kid and back yourself to keep him.

Obviously you do your due diligence first and you don't take a kid that says "I don't want to play anywhere but XXXX" for more than just the obvious reasons.

It'd be the same as the outcry that we had to put up with when Butcher intimated that he'd rather not play for a team that deliberately threw games to get him.

2. Trengove

Don't want pick 6, I rate Maric far too highly.

I guess some are still stung by the departure of Scott Thompson 5 years ago. JtR included. Whenever a player has (SA) or (WA) next to the name, it seems it's like "proceed with caution, warning - go home factor"

Yes, it was mentioned earlier in the thread. David Parkin's opinion it seems that the kid loved the Blues and "he'll be back" was announced by the former Blue coach.

I'd kind of prefer to keep Maric too. we really havent seen the best of him yet. And to be quite frank.... these last two years havent been really conducive to allowing the best of near anyone to come out ;)

I think Maric still has it to become a lethal crumbing forward.. I salivate at the idea of Jurrah and Maric in the same forward line !!

Yeah I agree but I think nowa teams will be drafting more players out of the WAFL and SANFL beacuse they seem to be ready made.

I dont know the stats but I think in last years draft there were ALOT of WA players drafted (maybe even more then the TAC) compared to other years and seeing their performance in the championships this year (not losing a game) I think more and more will get selected. Even more so that there are 2 new teams coming in the next 5 years. When they actually start playingthey will want ready made teenages cause they want and need instant success to get some support and credibility.

did gibbs play in front of 13000 people on the weekend, your armchair critics.

So now its not necessarily the kid, its our club and the fact we had a poor turnout in the 3rd last game of a season in which we won't play finals?

Don't be so weak, back the club in to keep the kid.

They wont get anywhere near them with their current pick come Nov. 28

Hawthorn will swoop.

I was expecting some E=mc2 formula on how they were going to get a pick of anywhere between 1 and 7.

Indeed, they're no where near a pick that will net Rohan.

Another un-educated comment.

You obviously have not seen what Rohan, Cunnington or Stevens have done this season in both TAC Cup or the Championships.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
