Different players, different rules?

Recommended Posts

I was thrilled last month when Robbo was dropped for poor defensive efforts and not doing the team thing.

I said in one of my comments on Bruce's performance that what he did this week at the selection table would show us even more about Bailey as a coach.

Last game, we had a senior player, a member of the leadership team put in less than whole-hearted efforts with the defensive side of the game. They were unacceptable.

This week, our coach had the chance to make an even bigger statement than the one with Robbo. He didn't.

Whether Dean will be remembered as a Rohde or a Clarkson remains to be seen. But here, he missed a chance to really impose his game on the team.

Dean - you have fumbled the ball.

Maybe it had something to do with the amount of outs we have for this game ............

FWIW - if we dropped every player who had an unacceptable game last monday, there would be no players left to play!

Fair point.

Still feel a big statement could have been made and wasn't.

Bruce is generally solid. He's able to play against most other players. He gets the ball.

In fact he's significantly up on career average, which could be a large part of the problem.

Despite what he costs us, his workrate and versatility is such that he's required.

Not to say that this won't change, it's just when.

Many like for like changes this week. Got one for Bruce?

Nope. Nor do I care.

Not arguing the case for him being dropped on team balance.

Dropping him would make the team weaker this week. Stronger in the long run.

Understood. But again, who? Who is ready even to start on his role? Is the team ready?

Again, I don't care.

Hell, I'd prefer to see Bell playing Bruce's position this week.

More seriously, I'd like to see Grimes play his role.

The team is being moulded this year, examples set this year can last with players forever.

Fair enough, like your choice. I'd be looking to the pre-season though for Grimes to gear up that way.

Not so sure the side is being moulded this year though, think they're starting to come good in the mixer.

A lot of change to come in the next few years still.

Dunn and Petterd are both listed as emergencies.

Other players could be moved into the midfield if you didn't want those guys there though (ie. Morton, who's spent time in defence lately, Green, who has seems to have spent time forward since returning from injury, perhaps run Grimes through there, etc.).

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
