Have wanted to go to Bruge for sometime.

Movie was fun while being a bit fuc led up at the end.

Ps Calvery with the tall older guy from In Bruge is an interesting watch which I've mentioned before.

It is Bruges isn't it? As in the Belgium town. Not Bruge.

    I watched "in bruge" on the weekend.. anyone seen it ? well worth the watch

    One of the few movies ive struggled to pencil into any area.

    Not sure if i loved it or thought it was bland.

    Just watched the 3D BluRay of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's (Amelie, City of Lost Children, etc) The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet. Stunning film, beautiful storyline, and great acting (including Judy Davis and Helen Bonham-Carter among others). Highly recommended.

    Just a reminder that the new series of Danger 5 is on SBS 2 tomorrow night! Should be worth a look. Currently looking at the first series on SBS tonight. It is truly ridiculous, but remember to kill Hitler!

    Anyway it is a good break from the Game of Thrones I have had to watch for the past two weeks, while on ho

    Idays. What the hell is going on there, I am confused, too many kingdoms for me but it is interesting at times. Me being a history buff the whole series and books could have been based on an actual period of history and been just as entertaining without having to be fantasy but that is just my preference.

    Not a fan of Tom Cruise but Edge of Tomorrow is really interesting. The concept of going over the same day, rather than Groundhog Day, it is reliving his death over and over.

    Ahem, having lived in Belgium for a number of years, it's both. Almost.

    The official name of the town is Brugge: it's in Flanders, and "brugge" is the Flemish (i.e. Dutch) word for "bridge".

    Bruges is the French version of the name, and the one that is used internationally - at least for the moment. Which reflects the history of administration in Belgium, which was French-speaking until the Flemish had had enough around the time of WWII. The local first division football team there (not too shabby either), is Club Brugge.

    FWIW, the same situation applies to a number of Belgian towns/cities. Perhaps some here might have heard of the WW1 memorial in Ypres ... though if you go there, the only signs you'll find use the official, Flemish name, Ieper. Similar towns that might ring a bell are Leuven/Louvain, Liege/Luik, and some which get rather odd: Mons/Bergen.

    Think of it as a bit like Ayers Rock/Uluru, or even Mumbai/Calcutta - complete with all the political subtext and baggage that that implies.

    The Theory of Everything, the film based on Stephen Hawking's life/relationships is worth a look. Remarkable acting from the two main characters playing Hawking and his first wife, Jane Wilde, mutterings of Oscar nominations etc. etc.

    There's a fantastic little NZ mocumentary being released on DVD/Bluray this week called What We Do in the Shadows. It's about a share household in the suburbs of Auckland, with the sharemates all being vampires. Very very funny and one I'll be purchasing some time during the week.

    Well, I picked up my copy of What We Do In the Shadows last week and if anything it is better the second time around. In the words of the inimitable Molly Meldrum, do yourselves a favour and get a hold of this... it's dollars well spent:

    Three Colours Blue was on late at night a couple of days ago on SBS.

    I'd forgotten just how good a film it is, so little dialogue yet so powerful.

    It's beautifully shot and the music is stunning, very much befitting of the magestically-named "concert for the unification of Europe".

    I'm listening to the score again now, and it makes me think that Leonard Cohen was right in claiming that there are secret chords that please the Lord - music that speaks to divinity, beauty and truth in ways that words alone cannot express.

    Just saw Birdman on the weekend. Great cast - Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts. Fantastic acting, a little off beat but I thought it was amazing.

    Probably watched every Beatles video/movie/docco ever made, And after any advertisement for a new show i think yeah,seen it and its just rehashed stuff adinfinateum.

    But last night on SBS,they showed a George Harrison doco,It had beatles film ive never seen,after following the band for 50 years,i still find it amazing that YOKO ONO has the rights to some fantastic material that she releases bit by bit.

    McCartney once said she had tapes of himself and John playing some new material,She refused to let him have it and recreate it in studio for the fans.

    Even at the end of last nights show,the credits were for yoko and her film library.

    Gone Girl. Bitter and twisted, which I thoroughly enjoy, and a very strong cast. 2 1/2 hours is a bit long, and the end seems to drag out. Maybe a function of the novelist being the screenwriter - couldn't kill her babies. A warning to those who don't like plot holes - this thing is a colander. If you can ignore the defects, it's worth a visit.

    Dark,no lighting specialist worked on this movie?

    The star is a piece of wood and shouldnt be allowed in movies.

    Somebody lost the last pages of the script so they ended it after refusing to work any longer than they had too.

    2/10.

    Never heard of that... it was an Australian film? I thought the best "revisit the nazis" film I've seen of late was Iron Sky... very very funny film... particularly liked that the president of the US was a Sarah Palin look alike.

    DC i don't even pretend they are historically accurate now days generally just try to enjoy it as a cinematic experience.

    I tend to agree Cards ... Frost/Nixon (the movie) was infinitely more entertaining than the actual interviews. Close enough is good enough is my motto when it comes to film. As long as you get the gist of it, that'll do.

    Revisiting my DVD of David Lynch's "The Straight Story"... a beautiful lazily paced film based, I believe, on a true story about an elderly man named Alvin Straight who sets off from his home in Grotto, Iowa to visit his brother in Wyoming who he hasn't spoken with in many many years after a disagreement, after he hears he has suffered a stroke. He wants to make peace before his brother passes on. The incredible thing about this is that Alvin makes this epic 240 mile journey on a ride-on lawnmower (made epic purely by the fact that the mower has a top speed of 5 mph).

    I cannot recommend this film highly enough... it is not typically David Lynch, but it is typically David Lynch. Lynch without the darkness.

    And it has one of the best lines I have ever heard in any film... when asked by a young guy at a camping ground "what's the worst thing about being old?", he replies "remembering when you were young." So, so, so true.

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
