And the most exciting for last - Liam Jurrah's first touch was running at full pace, picked the ball up at ankle height, did a blind turn through the pack and shot out a handball, very very nice. Didn't do alot else but that was enough to excite Big Kev and make me very eager to see more of him.

The only problem with that is the player in question looked like he was wearing #73 which according to the player's list makes him Aussie Wonaeamirri, doesn't it?

I will be doing a report on the game which will cover the better players from both sides. If caseyscorp is out there I'd appreciate it if he could identify number 2, a blond player called Andy who played well but whose name was not in the team sheet handed out at the ground.

Casey dominated the rucks through PJ and Wall and they gave their little men first use for most of the day. Valenti and Matthews won a lot of the ball at ground level and the latter kicked a real captain's goal late in the game to effectively seal the result. More later.

Jordie McKenzie was our best. Alot of good clearance work and made so much ground to find the footy. I like the look of him as a mobile flanker/midfielder.

Aussie was influential playing his part. Jurrah struggled to find the footy, but showed how to light up the field when he did get it with slick touches or quick movement. He's going to be exciting but does have alot of development to get through first. Rivers was in and out of the game but generally looked steady and enjoyed some nice touches. Valenti found alot of the footy and had a good workrate, not always damaging with it though. Something to improve on for Shane.

All in all a nice day was had out at Casey, I am reliably informed that the hotdogs are not as good as TBO, but the ham and salad role I had hit the spot nicely, plenty of time during the colder months to compare the hotdogs.

Can confirm IMO the HOTDOGS aren't much CHOP. :D

The overall Casey Fields is going to be an amazing area once it is finished, along with the aquatic centre (looks great even half finished) and houses are added around the Casey site.

The pool is more than half finished; it's almost completed and will be open in June. It's just about finished, and then there's commissioning and training of staff etc. It'll blow your mind when you get inside it, whether you're a kid wanting excitement on the water slides, a little tot in the kids water playground area, seriously after fitness in the main pool and gymnasium or lying back in the sauna and steam rooms.

They were built to last a couple of weeks, but there seemed to be genuine community affection for them so the Govt offered them to Councils.

Casey Council took 3 of them.

There's the leatherback turtle outside the Casey ARC (the major aquatic facility in Narre Warren), the dolphinfish next to the South Gippsland Hwy in Tooradin and the Roach in the Casey RACE (the almost completed major aquatic facility in Cranbourne East). Because they were only designed to last 2 weeks they have cost Councils which took them a small fortune to get upgraded for permanent display. But they are certainly a feature.

When you see them erected now, I wouldn't describe them as hideous. And they are certainly a cultural icon following their popularity in the river.

There's an easy way to resolve the impasse. RudeBoy, who is Liam's mentor and friend and who has posted here about him, would have been at the game watching intently. I'll defer to his judgement on the issue.

According to a Saints fan I know, the transition's not all that smooth and the Saints also have issues with their proposed new training base at Seaford which is a separate venue to TBO. Judging on reports on Sandy's practice match in saintsational they're not particularly interested in the Zebras.

There are lots of reasons why the Saints could be seen by the Zebs as a better partner than the Demons:

• the historic Trevor Barker connection

• their home base is in the next suburb

• they are doing well in the AFL at the moment.

But, with a closer look, they aren’t a strategic basis for making a decision.

Despite the TB name connection, it never assisted in fostering a closer relationship between the two clubs in previous years.

The redevelopment of the home base in Moorabbin has been the subject of disputation with the owner of the land, the Kingston Council. The Saints, despite having over 30 years left in the lease, have made a decision to pull up stumps and establish a new home base in the backblocks of Seaford. A strange decision indeed, and even more perplexing given that Casey Fields (the home of the Saints then aligned VFL team, the Casey Scorpions) was available to them at the time.

The issues with the Seaford base are another story in itself, and there’s plenty of comment about that on Saintsational.

Results in the AFL are cyclical as teams re-build and wane, so you wouldn’t base a decision (you wouldn’t think) on where a team was in the cycle at any point in time.

In terms of relationship, the Scorps have a far better relationship with MFC than they ever had with the Saints.

So I’m not sure what the major coup has been for the Zebs.

Particularly if the Saints decide to dump the Zebs and realign with Frankston once they get down there – then where will the Zebs be?

Yea the "half finished" comment was made from driving past it twice.... It looks like it will be fantastic!! If I lived in the area I would be absolutely stoked about the sporting facilities on hand. ha ha and I did think at one point gee wiz I'd love to have a go on those water slides even though I'm 31!!!

And I did hear a couple of the locals on the balcony mention there is something close to a $1mill in the banl just waiting for MFC to sign off on the deal with the Scorps for them to spend on the outer facilities but didn't want to mention it as 3rd hand info.

Overall it is a great place to go and watch footy from, loved the social rooms.

One thing that amazed me is how young VFL sides are now days. I recall watching some VFL back in the 80's, 80's and even 00's and you would have blokes playing well into there 30's, the oldest player looked 24/25. Scorps captain looked 20 at the oldest!

The works on the outer are worth about $650,000 and they'll go ahead independently of MFC signing up.

The works which are related to MFC signing up are extension to the pavilion ($2.1 million, of which the Council is funding $1.25 million).

If it was within the first 5-10 mins on the clubroom wing then it was Aussie, was almost right in front of where I was sitting having a beer. The handball was not quite right and turned over but the pick up and turn was great to see.

Read something in todays Age about the AFL looking to "take over" more of the running of the VFL, this could be a moot point for all alliances as the AFL are (from reading the article) looking to establish an "eastern seaboard 2nds comp", the VFL is dead against the changes being planned. The alliances might be in trouble if the AFL takes away funding and places it money into this potential new 2nds comp...
