I think 'Land and 'Ology are underutilised tools as far as the club goes. Here we have a gathering of arguably the most passionate fans the club has yet we never have a direct word from the club on either of these sites (CAC excluded).

I firmly believe that big Jimma at the very least should be on here semi regularly talking to us and shaping opinion, maybe where appropriate steering debate as well. If you wanted to get somewhere you would make sure you have every one rowing in the same direction. That's what the club could do on here and in a way they trivialise us with their absence.

The announcement may be known from within but unannounced whilst looking for the best marketing opportunity perhaps today if not in the New Year. And so the club should look for their best marketing and sales opportunity too.

Yeah, that's how I see it. Announcement of captain + announcement of sponsor to occur at same time. Of course, that relies on the assumption that we eventually get a sponsor...

The whole lack of a major sponsor thing is starting to worry me. I had it on very good mail that they had agreed to terms with a major food company from OS to be their sponsor, and were about to sign the dotted line then the financial gloabal meltdown stopped it.. does not sound good for future suiters

Melbman, I disagree. I really think that most - hell almost all - people who write hear and well-meaning passionate supporters who really do not know nearly as much as they think they do about footy. This is our place to use as we wish - not some forum for the club to mould us in their image or let us know what they are doing across all aspects of their jobs.

To assume that Jimmy not posting is a sign of him disrespecting you is nothing short of grossly self-important. If you really want to 'know' and meet the movers and shakers, why don't you join the Tridents or sponsor a player? That way you will get to meet players, recruiters, coaches and board members, get to listen to them, question them and be that bit closer and more involved. If that is what you want, the method is clear.

Absurd. Stynes & the club have no semblance of an obligation to post on any forums & I'd be disappointed if they did.

I can understand why they've selected McDonald (if they have), a very underrated player, especially over the last half dozen years however....I think by mid year he's going to struggle to hold his spot. He's 32 and 09 will be his last year, the decision says more about our leadership group in the 25-30 age group bracket than anything else.

We on this forum tend to overestimate the importance of who gets the guernsey, in any case.

Not being captain will not prevent a true leader from leading. In the end it is only a title.

The appointment of Macca is a little deflating to the winds of change sweeping through the MFC at the moment.

Nobody in their right mind would ever question JMacs credentials to lead this great club, in fact in many respects

he is exactly what you would want in your skipper, hard, determined, dependable and lets his actions do the

talking. However at the risk of contradicting myself, he is a player whos opportunity to lead as captain has

passed. Not saying he cant do the job well for the next couple of years and have us thinking of what could of

been, but it is time for fresh blood. Surely Baily needs to step in to the team election of a skipper and tell the

group that players such as Macca, Bruce, Robbo and maybe even Greeny are not eligible for selection due to age.

That way the group will have to look to a younger player to step up and assume the responsibility of leadership.

Same should apply to the leadership group. We have invested in youth to take us forward so they should lead

us there.

For what its worth, if Brock isnt thought of as a leader in the group, which very well might be the case,

then so be it. We may find a leadership gem amongst the rest of the crop.

I reckon that the "deflating" factor here is the supporters' moaning, and that's about it.

We don't have a captain at the club. It's that simple. Once you realise this fact fully, you can see that the JMac announcement is as exciting as we could get. Consider this:

- Assume for a moment that WHOEVER took the reigns was always going to be a caretaker captain in a time of enormous upheaval for the club and list. The only senior names are not serious captaincy material...

- Had Bruce been appointed, he'd play another 3 years, likely at least 2 as captain. Had it been Green you could add another year to both those equations. While JMac, Bruce and Green IMO are not captains, JMac at least has the respect of the football world, his opposition, and his team-mates. And unlike Green he's had that respect for years now. He is an ideal caretaker captain as he's only expected to captain for a year, and two if necessary.

- Everyone says how our list is so exciting and young, but they forget a VERY important aspect. Youth and potential is just the first step. There's SO much water to go under the bridge, and almost as important as the youth and talent, is the leadership and education of these players. I'm more worried about Jack Watts being just another demon player who was good, but didn't reach his full potential, than I am about the appointment of a 22-round captain. In terms of setting an example, Green would have been good, but JMac is the best.

- As much as many have fallen in love with Brock as captain (myself included), he is just not ready yet.

- The mid-age guys, including Rivers, Miller, Sylvia, McLean, Davey... All these guys should be put on notice as of now. JMac would probably admit himself that he's not likely to play the full 22 rounds, and even if he did, the likelihood is that he'll control very few games... after all... he never was that type of player. This year should be considered an audition for the leadership role for every player from Brock (2010) to Watts (further into the future).

I can totally see Brock playing at least 18 rounds, as he'll probably miss a few due to injury. We'll see his face pop up in the media a lot where we'll see how serious he is about growing up. Knowing Brock's history, given the fact he has a chance, he'll convert it, and we'll see a chorus of demons supporters, media commentators and "experts" calling for him to get the job.

Junior has been a wonderful and tireless servant of the Club and does not get all the accolades he should have got over the course of his career. However, Junior is not the player he once was. He really struggled last year despite his best and tireless efforts.

If MFC had a better performing midfield and a more robust leadership group, then I doubt whether Junior would have been re signed for another year. The fact is we dont have ATM better options in the midfield than Junior in his twilight and the Footy Dept's respect of his leadership skills also highlights their concern about the brittleness and hardness of the midfield.

Junior will give his all this year but I am concern that the pace of the game that challenged him so much last year will challenge him further this year. I would expect to see a changing of the guard in leadership and midfield personnel over the course of 2009.

Given the chronic culture problem with leadership at the Club I would have thought the captaincy position and the leadership to be very important aspects of fostering the leadership environment that creates and sustains successful clubs.

I agree entirely with what RR has said here.

However, the article in yesterday's paper seemed to me to be a regurgitation of similar article that appeared weeks before, while the team was on their training camp in Mansfield.

Robbo was quoted as saying everyone admired Junior and he had the respect of all the team, so that if he got the job, it would be a popular decision.

The announcement still has not been made (officially), so, while I could understand the short term pragmatism of appointing Junior, I would prefer to wait for the official announcement.

It may still be that someone else will get the nod.
