according to reports he went home last yr in the middle of the season declaring a close friend was unwell..... AFL clubs looked into this and some were lead to believe this was not true. hope he sticks around... he certainly has some good people around him davey, whelan, aussie etc and he could be a real talent!!

are these reports from the same source that incorrectly labelled naitanui and deboer as future demons? lol

Maybe Collingwood were trying to pull a shifty, and hide him away. It seems odd that he didn't nominate for the ND, when he's got a burning desire to play AFL.

That's the word around town from a few months ago when he went back home.

Its mentioned on a few filth threads on the big footy forums.

Who can trust what you say? You are wrong on everything.

Definitely one way of looking at it Mo. It does seem odd.

Here's an article link with a few quotes from Barry about Jurrah...

I've just been speaking to someone who knows Liam very well. I've been asked not to mention the context of how they know him.

The reason for his return home during his Collingwood time was a valid reason and was as reported. He is a respected member of his community and going home was the done thing to do under the circumstances

In general info about him of a non personal & invasive nature just confirms what has been reported in mainstream media. Natural exciting footballing talent that had never (prior to Collingwood) been to a gym or had the training that we take for granted

Not only were the Dees looking at him but the Hawks flew up recently to watch too apparently

Bigpond always redirects me to some Aussie Footy site that never works for me, any one else get this?

In any case, i found this just uploaded to youtube, im guessing its the same as the bigpond highlights?

I've got problems with Bigpond too. Have trouble with MFCTV.

Hope he goes well and wipe out the heartburn i sometimes get imagining Niknat and Jwatts playing together.

The Filth would be crying seeing this video with the dees colours at the start. my 1 good deed for each day will be to show this clip to a supporter of the filth! It would be nice to see him kick a bag against them early in the year, and then destroy them on QB monday!

Fork you from up that way? 4th or 5th language is astounding! I would have thought 2nd or 3rd at most.

Great to hear some new supporters coming onboard, especially over the filth. Maybe a few of the heartland memberships can end up in the hands of some of the little fellas now hopefully following Jurrah and the dees along with a few jumpers or twenty!

Lived in nearby community for two and a half years and in Alice for the last three. Still live there, have seen heaps of footy throughout the region and am stoked with the Dees bold decision to draft Liam.

People from Yuendumu speak Walpiri primarily, beyond that Pintupi Luritja, a bit of Kukatja, some Pitjantjatjarra, maybe a bit of Arrente and then English.

There is a community nearby (150kms) that has a very strong family connections to Yuendumu called Nyirrpi (population approximately 200), their local side is the Nyirrpi Demons, they will be stoked with Liam being drafted. Plenty of room for the Dees to get out to these areas and contribute and bring a few more fans on board.

Interesting post 'the fork'. As you mentioned there must be plenty of room in those remote areas. As evidenced by the 'nearby' community thats 150kms away.

Hopefully there will be a Demon contingent visit one of these communities with Jurrah in the future.

Demonland/Demonology v Nyirrpi Demons anyone?

That could apply to anyone. Its not unique to indigenious communities

Just because deference to olders and respect of authority could apply to an individual from any culture doesn't invalidate Distance Demon's comments on the culture of the community Jurrah's coming from...

What's the point that you're trying to make? Are you suggesting that there aren't cultural differences along the lines Distance Demon has asserted?

Sure, there seem to be some over-generalisations when it comes to Aboriginal players (ie. attributing explosive pace to every Aboriginal footballer regardless of the individual's athletic abilities) but you seem to be going to the other extreme.

*shrug

Anyhow, here's some comment from BP on Jurrah:

"He has just got some of those classic indigenous movements and traits that we sort of associate with smaller-type players," Prendergast said.

"Because he is so athletic . . . he looks like he probably plays a bit smaller than what his height actually is. You are probably looking at a taller Aaron Davey, or something like that.

"Certainly he has a lot of talent. It's just a matter of trying to harness it now."

He sounds like an interesting prospect.

I wonder exactly what sort of role the Club sees him playing once he develops.

on the MFC website it has BP saying “We see Liam as a tall marking forward, who can compliment the selection of Jack Watts in the National Draft.” so hopefully we see him stay in the forward line

With the speed of Watts, Jurrah, Miller, and the defensive pressure of Aussie, once the ball gets into the forward line, good luck to the opposition getting it out again

Here's hoping that the boundary umpires are leading the stats for bringing the ball out of our forward 50.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
