Surely this is one of the best games in our recent history

I actually thought that game was one of the best wins we have had in the past 5-6 years. PJs was just one of the great individual efforts that day. Against a surging and desperate reigning premier at their home ground and we finished the game with no interchange and of the 18 "fit" men still out there, two were in significant discomfort from the heat of battle. Stirring win with loads of character.

was this the game with the bruce goal?

As far as atmosphere and passion goes; it was amazing. I remember a moment when I was on my feet, screaming with my fists in the air, sure I was all alone. I glanced sideways to see a sea of red & blue of all ages doing exactly the same. We were a pack of ferals that day, electric and anyone who doubts the passion of Mfc supporters would have been shaken to be amongst us.

I believe that when we return as a force, we'll see a mass awakening, like what we glimpsed on that day.

Got down the boundary at the beginning of the game to cheer Stef Martin on for his first game, like to think some of my positivity got in his ear and urged him on.

I was there. No doubting the MFC passion on and off the ground.

However Swampfox was right. Up to 3 qtr time it was indeed an ordinary standard where both teams traded turnovers and errors.

The last quarter did ease the pain though!

The only other game in recient memmory that comes close to this was the jeff white after the siren goal v Bullies.

About the crowd, I spoke to a friend of mine who was not at the game but listened to it on the radio. He thought that we had 45k+ at the game and could not believe that there was only low 20's from memmory. I cranked this up loud last night at home,

Geez we made some noise, look out in 09 if we get a bit of a run on - the fans will go nuts after a bad year.

Absolutely agree. Just because the game wasn't played to a high standard (far from it) doesn't mean it wasn't a fantastic occasion for the Melbourne Football Club.

Hopefully, when we do recover and become a decent football team again, this 3-4 year patch will have galvanised Melbourne supporters, such that we will have a strong supporter base that rivals most other clubs.

I had only just started to take my 2 young boys to the footy this year. They have been tempted to follow other teams due to the fact that we live near Geelong and that our team has been struggling a little.

That day they became lifelong Demons.

I suppose it just goes to show that neat footy is not all there is to good entertainment. Football purity can take a back seat on these occassions.

A bunch of us came down from the bush to help bolster the gate to 20k+, not expecting much value from the Dees.

Well, it is now consigned to history that there was actually 100k Melbourne supporters at the G on that day. I know that to be true, I heard them!

It is possible Brisbane were lulled into mediocrity, but it was still a 'boys' vs 'men' contest, one that gives hope that there is fight in the young Demons, a key attribute for the future.

We went back home after some very celebratory drinks, all hoarse, agreeing it was the best game we have seen in years.

If it was not for the final quarter it would have been a very ordinary football afternoon. Its not about football purity just the skill level or lack there of.

Its a good point about Brisbane. I have no doubt they coasted on the day and it was this performance plus some other soft efforts that eventually cost the coach Matthews his head.

Well done for making the effort to get to the game. It helped the spirit on the day.

After games like this, with the injection of a couple of good years in the draft and with good developmental coaches, I really believe that Melbourne does not have as bleak a future as everyone is leading us to believe.

Re: Video Link: Good stirring win. An injection of young quality footballers is required. I believe we got some of the missing jigsaw from the ND. I agree that our future is at least looking brighter, but there is much still to be done on and off the field.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
