Surely this is one of the best games in our recent history

Melbourne V Brisbane Round 14 2008 >>>>final three minutes

A team on the botton of the ladder, beating a team with many premiership players, with the likes of brownlow medallist simon black, monsters in jonathon brown and bradwshaw; a team that is playing for a spot in the finals.

New President Jim Stynes, stands next to the father of Melbourne cult hero Austin Woenarmirri, amongst the 23,000 fans, who apart from a win (albeit another great one) in round 7, have had absolutely nothing to cheer about for a long time.

With moments like this, the desperation of this team of unbelievably young players, showed real potential, just showing a glimpse of what we can hope for in the years to come.

This article sums up the amazing feat that Melbourne achieved during this game.

After games like this, with the injection of a couple of good years in the draft and with good developmental coaches, I really believe that Melbourne does not have as bleak a future as everyone is leading us to believe.

I hate that site. Makes my brand new iMac run slow all the time. Always have trouble watching videos there. It loads the promo for High School Musical 3 then sits on a black screen for 10 minutes...

EDIT: Now it's saying "No Video"

In my mind, the bleak future is completely related to financial matters & club survival, as opposed to on-field performance.

I'd be surprised if we get another priority pick in 2009.

This would have to go down as one of the all time best run downs and to then gather the pill..... I couldn't talk after the game, my throat was too sore!

This is the point in my book where PJ has gone to cult status!

Hiya calabreseboy

Only got Safari and Firefox on my Mac. Neither work :(

I get the same problem with Safari. I find no video comes up so i just have to do a search for it, then it works.

Usually the advertising loads separate, then the main content. I usually pause it during the advert & let it all load then when i watch it the footage is fine.

On odd occasions the audio is fine but the image stutters along - if i load another video then go back it usually works fine the 2nd time.

Pain in the neck, i know.

Brilliant game. These are the moments to savour in crap years. The unps were doing us no favours at all, we seemed gone, and then we won by the best margin of all! Watching that video, what stands out is the tenacity at the contest. It's amazing how many times the Lions got first hands, only to be tackled, smothered, intercepted or run down. Shows how much footy is played between the ears, and how the simplest things are the most important.

i never noticed but in that last three minutes, brad green was absolutely everywhere

If the video does not load search for Round 14, then go to results 31-60 of 313 and the link is in there. Should work fine from then onwards

SCG, round 4 vs Sydney, 2006. Paul Johnson outpoints Hall and delivers the ball up to the wing to space... He follows up his own ball running half the ground, where the Swans ruckman lumbers along and smashes him as he dives for the pill near the boundary. His shoulder pops out, he gets to his feet with an enormous gap where his shoulder used to be to contest the ruck throwin... He loses over a year on his career due to this act of desperation on the wing in the middle point of a game. A time when clearing the ball and staying on Hall would have been enough.

THAT'S the moment he went to cult status for me.

Correct, same for me too.. Magnificent effort by High Tower on that occassion.

You got flip4mac wmv?

oh. yeah. Forgot that bit. You'll need that.

One of the few games I got to this year, due to being an interstater. Dad and I made it along, not expecting much and boy what a game we got!

Was on the wing for that chase, on my feet screaming my lungs out with thousands of Dees supporters around us, one of the great moments in my football watching life, as was the end to the game, gave me great hope for the future. Willing to hang on for as long as it takes.

You got to be kidding when you think this game was good

To me it was clangerfest with a positive and gutsy final result for us

are you joking?

in terms of the atmospher and the result alone it was a great game

for once, we were taking the game on...we lead for a lot of the game (how many times has that happened)

miller kicked 4

sylvia kicked 4

paul johnson played very well

stefin martin played his first game

maybe in terms of the actual game, obviously it wasnt the finest spectacle, considering our average age was about 21 and we were sitting on the bottom of the ladder, but from the perspective of where this club was at off field and on the field, against brisbane at the G for the first time in 10 years, with a new president sitting near the front row, with everyone on their feet, with an 11 point margin with 3 minutes to go

i dont know what ur on about

as a melbourne supporter, how can that be a bad game?

"a clangerfest with a good result???"...so it wasnt a good game at all?

are you not considering things like the one on one contests? the passion? the dedication? the atmospher?

Im overseas and I have yet to see that last quater v the Brisbane this year, Any chance of someone putting it up on you tube or get it to me some how.

Big pond video want me to pay for it.

THAT Brad Miller mark is still in my memory, and gives me goosebumps every time I think about it.

Still remember trying to sing the song after the game with absolutely no voice, squeaking away!

Were you there fox?

As far as atmosphere and passion goes; it was amazing. I remember a moment when I was on my feet, screaming with my fists in the air, sure I was all alone. I glanced sideways to see a sea of red & blue of all ages doing exactly the same. We were a pack of ferals that day, electric and anyone who doubts the passion of Mfc supporters would have been shaken to be amongst us.

I believe that when we return as a force, we'll see a mass awakening, like what we glimpsed on that day.

Got down the boundary at the beginning of the game to cheer Stef Martin on for his first game, like to think some of my positivity got in his ear and urged him on.

the thing was that it said 34 mins gone when he took it.

i went mental, and then went, holy [censored] he better kick it. then i went mental again.

im pretty sure i stood on the back of a seat in the mcc.

completely forgot the hangover from hell (beached as)

you have to measure the excitment against the despair caused by bradshaws goal at the 31 min mark. i was about to cry, cos the boys had tried so hard, and to get done like that would have been cruel.

then wonearmirri running past on the boundary line to top off the most gruelling minute in the brissy forward line

Greeny's celebration after Miller took the mark was worth the price of admission itself. He was so excited, i really feel that the crowd helped to lift the boys across the line that day.

I actually thought that game was one of the best wins we have had in the past 5-6 years. PJs was just one of the great individual efforts that day. Against a surging and desperate reigning premier at their home ground and we finished the game with no interchange and of the 18 "fit" men still out there, two were in significant discomfort from the heat of battle. Stirring win with loads of character.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
