Big man aims for big show

JAKE SPENCER is not a name well known outside Melbourne Football Club and its faithful supporter base, but the giant ruckman is looking to make a few people sit up and take notice in 2009

Dean [bailey] said that if I can get through pre-season, and he can tell that I'm working hard, then I'm every chance to play in the NAB Cup -- that's when I hope to get a chance and we'll see what happens

This article seems to me to be a message to those people who are questioning whether we have taken enough big men in the draft. We have one that the club rates developing on our list.

Clearly the club believes that he is a chance of making it and is sending a message to not only the supporteres but to the player himself.

I actually can't remember what his kicking is like? I don't remember it being terrible.

I'm a huge fan of big Stef, his kicking is passable but needs more work as it looks like he himself does not trust it yet and so prefers to handball off to a more proficient team mate. The huge plus is his speed of hands and the distance he gets with his handballs...his basketball heritage coming to the fore.

Whilst I'd imagine when there will be times when he goes forward, at the moment he looks best suited to the backline.

Caveat: 12 months ago I though Garland was a forward. ;)

I'm actually really excited about the NAB cup. I think we'll see most, if not all of our recruits from last year, and probably some of this year's draftees make an appearance.

What a friggin disgrace it is that they stuck us in bloody Tasmania against the Hawks in the first round though!

Supporters have been asking where are our tall timber coming from in the draft? Or why wasn't a ruckman picked?

    Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock for the final week of training for the 1st to 4th Years until they are joined by the rest of the senior squad for Preseason Training Camp in Mansfield next week. WAYNE RUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS No Ollie, Chin, Riv today, but Rick & Spargs turned up and McDonald was there in casual attire. Seston, and Howes did a lot of boundary running, and Tom Campbell continued his work with individual trainer in non-MFC
