In fact the 12 month's growth to June 30 2007 (latest available I think) was 6844. That = 132 people/week.

I don't know whether Nugget (or someone else) transposed the figures prior to doing a calculation, but it seems too co-incidental that the same digits are involved.

They're staggering growth rates. Fair to say it would be a tradies paradise in that region. Many young families, alot of membership opportunities.

Casey's current population is about 235,000. It will grow to 350,000 over the next 15-20 years if the Urban Growth Boundary stays in the same place. If it moves out further (and the govt has promised to keep 15 years supply of land within the UGB) then there will be even more growth.

That is the key to the success of the move to Casey.

As far as a tradies paradise is concerned, that's spot on. Not only does the growth drive significant employment in the building industry, but a heck of a lot of tradies live in Casey. They have money and kids!!

Question 2) they do to an extent, but they always finish at the MCC and stay there for a while, as well as all of the coaching staff and stuff...they definately pay the most attention to the members and i think (considering at the end of a game you can walk straight into gate 2 from outside the ground) they should free up the side area into the mcc

Here's another Einstein like idea, put the training times and dates on the website. They have no excuses now as training will be at Casey Fields, all we need are the dates (Which are on Casey's government site, with the time!) and the times!!

I am not nor have I ever been a MCC member. I am a blue collar worker and have always been.

A normal member since 1987. Maybe I was picked because I wrote[ remember pen and paper] and hand delivered my ideas to the

club? Who knows? Who really cares, but the thing is in 20 years as a member I cant remember any other board doing anything

like this.

Obviously we want as many supporters as we can, but I don't think having a negative attitude to other Dees supporters is helpful. If you see an elitist problem at the club, you need to specify examples, and specify solutions, otherwise it just sounds liek slander.

as i said when the chips are down for the Dees the MCC are the first to go. lets ask the Power or the Eagles if we can use their changerooms next time we play interstate. fat chance. lets have our own changerooms and fill it with a bit of history. and if certain groups of supporters are put out because of it , well they are probably going to the ground for differant reasons than me

Indeed, we are all just supporters, and I love every one of you Demons. I'm not attempting to promote negativity here, just discussion.

I do not have any ready answers to the issues I raise, I am not slandering anyone, and believe it or not, I don't have a problem with MCC or MCC/MFC members.

I believe the Casey arrangement is the right way to go, but we should go further and tie ourselves into that community. We need to get Demons involved at grass roots level, auskick and schools. We need to invest in the demograhic. We can still do the MCC/MFC/MCG thing.

Fair enough mate, and it's exactly what we should be trying to achieve.

This forum is a perfect opportunity to brainstorm ideas to help the club, and in that way we are lucky to have such a collection of minds.

What are some specific ways we think we can attract supporters/link ourselves closely to the Casey region? The more ideas the better I feel

MFC vs. Casey Scorpions game, essentially a practice match where fans can meet players post match with proceeds going to charity/local hopstial

Sponsor a few Junior football teams, to get our logo on some youth jumpers (not sure if this can be done but it's just an idea)

Buy a pub, or something, in the area to congregate supporter bases. Trivia nights, casual nights, restaurant, I'm not sure the best way to run it but I'm sure the club could do it possitively. (Wouldn't even be a bad thing to run a normal pub with limited MFC visuals at all)

Obviously it's difficult to come up with ideas when you have no experience/inside knowledge, in individual areas. But I'm sure everyone here could come up with one idea at least that would be workable. For instance, would anyone here know if the club would be able to use Casey businesses for most of its daily needs (i.e. catering, electronics, physios), pick locals to run drinks to the players at training etc.

The plan already is to go further, right along the same lines you were thinking about. There was a heap of info about the community program to be delivered by MFC when the Council considered the matter on 5 August (first item on the agenda - you can find it through http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/meetings/artic...Item=11233#aug) including:

* Business Ambassadorship

* Melbourne FC in Schools

* family day at Casey Fields

* inviting locals down to training, with sausage sizzles etc

* Coach the Coaches/Ambassadors

* Demon’s Cup for local clubs & Curtain Raiser on the MCG

* Local Police/Community Service Training Days

* Involvement in articles in local papers

* employment of a Community Development Officer to oversee the community program

* seeking to have one or two NAB games at Casey Fields each year.

MFC are certainly planning to get right into a partnership with the community.

Why do you think it would be silly? The MCC owns the ground, not just the stand.

If it's with regards MCC members, I don't really understand why MCC members would care.

If you go to the rooms there's plenty of time to get back to your seat after you're booted out pre-match, and there'd be ample time to get down there after the final siren too.

If it's about the race the players use that seems pretty trivial - other members seem to manage okay without having the players run out next to them.

One participating Melbourne member, Michael O'Donnell, said he thought the club should encourage tourists and new citizens to go to games.

"Melbourne has to increase their supporter base," O'Donnell said.

"So I think every time there's a citizenship ceremony done by Melbourne City Council, Melbourne footy club should be giving out a five-game membership to new Australian citizens and maybe a scarf as well."

This is a good idea, and MFC is also in a position to establish something with the City of Casey.

If you want to see large numbers of new citizens you probably can't go past Casey. In 2006/07 Casey had about 2,300 residents conferred Australian citizenship.

I actually suggested the story to Amelia, who is a friend of mine now working at the Hun, so she spoke to me about it.

And casey_scorp - I also think the system would be perfect for the City of Casey - that is how the club will start to get links to the community, and this is part of the community least likely to have a connection to an AFL club yet.
