Green now re-signed

I definately think green should be the captain. His actions on the Footy field warrant it. What happened over draft week is in the past. Remember all players are tradeable. Green didn't want to leave the MFC, he wanted a good deal. He stood his ground and got it. Move on Captain for sure...

Do you think Brock's actions on the field have not warranted it?

That brisbane game that ended his season he played through the injury and was critical I thought.

If you're going to talk about 'off-field issues' i think Green has some question marks too

by the way, saw Brock out on saturday and he looked like he was moving pretty well, looks like he'll be up & going for most of pre-season

I don't have a great problem with Brock being captain, in future years i think he will, but for this year i think Greeny should be the captain. I think he was our best player. What "Off Field" incidences are you talking about, not Trade week i hope. Thats just business. BTW i respect Brock for putting his hand in his pocket at the Debt Demolition.

No, didn't mean trade week... Its just that criticisms can be made of Brock off-field, but i think they can be made of BG too.

Personally have some issues with Brad Green's profile as a captain and his lack of personality whenever he's done things in the media (ie. the footy show)

I know he tries, but i think he's not the type to make the club look attractive. He's more vanilla than anything.

its a petty criticism, i know.

A great captain must have 7 attributes in my opinion.

1. The respect of the club. Players, Coaches and Fans. Most importantly respect them back. (check)

2. The ability to lead men who have more experience (check)

3. The want to stand up when it's your turn (check)

4. Playing ability (check)

5. A love for the club (check)

6. The desire to earn their spot everyweek (check)

7. Lead by example (check)

Brock passes in all of my personal categories and should be captain.

What about maturity off the field? How can Brock lead by example when he does burnouts in his car?

BTW, not sure why Green has to go to hell for you Rusty, he has signed on at the club after carefully considering his future, he was never going to let the club hang out to dry in the end. (ie to the PSD)

He doesnt have to go to hell at all. I know alot is talked about on this thing about Footballers oweing the club nothing- and I tend to agree, but that is in reference to players who havent started their career with this club.

I just feel uneasy and a little bit upset with the fact that Green left it until the last second to sign on to the dees. I understand that he was never going to leave the club high and dry and enter the PSD, which is quite admirable.

I just get the impression that, he didnt want to be there. This is just his last option.

Iam certainly not as upset now, a few days on as I was then- and now given some thought, wouldnt mind if he was captain, becuase to be honest, now he ahs signed. i think he may get it.

I wouldn't take too much out of the "Footy Show" as far as personality goes. I would be more worried about how Brad talks to the team in a huddle. His selfless acts of courage on field speak Captain to me. Brock does the same, but not yet as much. Brad Green is the one player i believe who consistently held his own in 2008. The B & F order i find staggering-but its only my view.

I can see McLean as captain, but not yet.

I found this surprising too.

From what?

If he didn't want to be there, he would have left.

Wow :o

Btw, what did you think of Neitz as a media performer? McDonald?

Is 2008 premiership captain Mitchell a media star?

I don't think it'd be unfair to label 2007 premiership captain Harley a little beige.

BTW would you be prepared to tell Brad that he is "Vanilla" to his face?? I doubt it very much. Too much hiding behind a Keyboard on this site. Demonland is better than that.

Nah, I would. Easy to say on here i know. But i'd gladly give him constructive criticism.

I'd challenge him to tell me what would make him a good captain.

And you know what, he'd probably convince me that i'm wrong in about 2 mins flat.

But i'm afraid none of his passion or charisma comes across to me, whereas Brock just gets me.

its an intangible, but i still think its important

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
