Seaby quits Eagles

On Perth radio last night that Mark Seaby has quit the Eagles.

This could put a new slant on the Warnock saga with another 200cm ruckman in the mix. He's played more games, can play forward and did a good job for them in the ruck when Cox was injured. We could do worse.

There's so many other options I'd rather take than him... Is anyone else underwhelmed by his abilities? We've already got the best backup ruckman going around, and I'm not sure about Seaby as a starting ruckman...

If we got him cheap as chips, and offloaded Jamar maybe that would work.

Seaby could be a good bit of "cabbage", pick him up with a late draft pick whilst giving time for Spencer to develop

No thanks, I think it would be better to give the spot on the list to a young player than to cabbage. We don't need cabbage, we need some god red meat.

The one thing that our playing list has on its side as silly as it sounds is time. We are not going to make the finals next year. Development of the young blokes we have and the ones we get. If we do it right then we will have a number of young players hitting their prime in the 22-26 yo bracket at the same time. This could give us Geelong style depth.

Picking up blokes like Seaby will hamper this.

you've all ruled otu Simon Taylor, not only cos you think he's crap(when he's not) and he's 26

Seaby is 24, and possibl better than Taylor.

If we do not get Warnock, which looks highly likely at this stage- we should get Seaby. Let's be realistic Spencer won't be ready to play AFL footy next year, cos he only just played SAndy seniors 2nd half of the yr. He's developing well, but jamar is terrible and PJ needs another ruckman .

Interesting that Dennis Commetti mooted half way through the season during his commentary, that Melbourne could well do with a Seaby. Wonder if the champ knew something back then?

Agreed with you mate. Seaby is only 24 can kick goals unlike jamar and fits in with the youth policy.

Yes, underwhelmed. We don't want players who are NOT GOING TO GET BETTER jamming our list.

Living in Perth and seeing at lot of Eagles games both live and on tv, I'd be very disappointed if we took him. His output this year was miles below previous years, offered very little as a back up ruckman, with west coast preferring the big Q in that role at times. Think it could be a case of jump before he was pushed here.

 "number 1 at a number of clubs"

have a feeling West Coast's past midfield made him look much better then he is.

I have no doubt he'll be picked up by somebody but I don't think he'll be as good as his manager is making out.

Interesting note about Adam Thomson down the bottom, guess we won't be dealing for him as previously suggested

It was reported in the Sun today that his manager had been in talks with Richmond, Carlton (who don't they have a crack at?) and St. Kilda. Doesn't look like we are interested at this point.

He would be one step up from Jamar as he can go forward and kick goals. He and Johnson could simply swap between the forward 50 and rucking duties all day. Would take with a 4th or 5th round pick but nothing more.

west coast wouldn't accept anything like a 4th or 5th rounder though, he's still under contract for next year

he seemed to lose the ability to go forward and kick goals a bit this year, mind you apart from mckinley what eagles forward didn't??

hope he can move on and find form again though, he took the jnr team i coach for training a couple of times and seems like a great bloke, just find it funny any time a player becomes available their ability and value suddenly sky rockets.

I'm underwhelmed too. People talk about Seaby as being one step up from Jamar but so what. He won't be that much better and it's Jamar we are talking about. Jamar. :o

In alot of ways that's true, plus we would have to cough up far too much to get him anyway. We may as well stick with what we have.

At best he is a PSD consideration.

And if it was a choice between a young prospect type like a Stefan Martin and Seaby, I take the young prospect.

I believe Seaby is still under contract Rhino so we would have to trade to get him. I could be wrong though... ?

Thanks WB.

If thats the case......Pass.

Pass. Give Jamar the opportunity to ruck for a year without Jeff White around. Still young! PJ is great! And keep devoloping Spencer. I would prefer to pick up a Roughead in the draft than a Seaby or pass on ruckman all together unless we get another early pick and snap up Vickery.

Is contracted for 2009.

Didn't he practically get that chance this season? White played a few games but Jamar was our number two for the majority of the year.

Yes he did get a chance for however many rounds it was. Not enough! Give him a full season! I thought he was alot better with White out. I think we would be cutting him short and ourselves if we did'nt give the opportunity a go! Simmonds and Jolly have both relished without White. Give the Russian a good go at it! I hope we do and turns out to be more than we hoped for.

From today's Hun:

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...9-19742,00.html

This was interesting:

One scenario would have the Eagles allowing Seaby to go to the Demons, with an agreement that West Australian star Nicholas Naitanui would be left for West Coast to snap up with pick No. 2.

So Seaby for pick 67, and an assurance that the Demons will "pass" on Naitanui. If we're happy to have Seaby on the list, then you're not going to get a better deal than that.

Great, lets get him!! Was a regular in their GF years.

The one game that stuck out in my mind was against Collingwood in 2006 at the Dome. Cox was out of the lineup, and everyone thought Eagles would be screwed in the ruck. However up stepped Seaby with 24 hitouts and 3 goals. Fantastic effort.

Has kicked 64 goals in 97 games, so he can be dangerous around goals. Kicked 20 goals in 2007.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
