It shows great inititaive by the Mfc to undertake this research into finding out what influences kids to follow certain sports and certain sporting teams. There are a number of factors: -

1/ Parents/Relatives

2/ Friends

3/ Hero's that impress children

4/ Winning teams

5/ Local sporting organisations

There would also be factors as to why children are influenced into NOT following certain teams: -

1/ Drugs & Indescretions (Why Nisbett has said no to Cousins)

2/ Culture

3/ Pure Failure and perceived failure

4/ Lack of Popularity

5/ Peer pressure (from friends, parents and relatives)

6/ Influence of other teams and/or sports focus in local area.

These are all but a few points.

Fwiw, I have seen first hand with my kids last weekend - who are melbourne supporters (& members) mind you (of which I am most proud) - how teams playing in the Grand Final could and can influence childrens support.

My two girls painted their faces as part of the day, part of the celebration of watching the Grand Final; One in Hawk colours (6yo), the other (the youngest = 3yo) in Cats colours. Late in the 3rd quarter when the Hawks kicked 30 points clear, my youngest after being told, started to rub off the Cats colours off her face and wanted to have Hawk colours on - immediately!! (quite hilarious, but I admired her for wanting to be seen as a winner!)

After the game, questions came my way about the ladder positions of this year. My response was swift, that the Dees were only 'several wins' behind the Cats and Hawks (haha), and that the Mighty Dees would improve next year after losing some older players and getting some very good young players into the team. "Stick with the Dees, we'll be back" was the message.

The kids took it on the chin and believed their dad (fingers crossed they did).

GO DEES!

Well done HT, well it has worked for Father Xmas, so when you're on a winning thing, may as well stick with it...........

Just think of it as doing them a favour, in a few years time they will appreciate following a team that they have in common with their dad, and it will mean so much more having that bond.

Seriously..anyone else volunteered..and actually had contact via club??

Its begining to annoy me...ya sound a bit silly when ya daughter asks you.."What time is it next Sat Dad ?" and you have no idea...she's a bit less than keen now !! Who can blame her. <_<

Well..Ive sent off a rather blunt to the point email.. kept it civil.. but Im not happy.

If you are going to entertain doing these things..it helps to do the follow up..otherwise you look amateurish !!

Have you tried ringing up the club bub?

With all due respect..why should I.. They have set up a you beaut web sign on etc. You give them your details..and they say they will contact YOU..I , in my sillyness, expect that they would do so in business hours at a time when they can , given their resources. I dont expect silver service..I dont expect miracles.. I just expect them to do what they say they will do.

its not hard.

I dont suffer fools in business or elsewhere.. Stangely I make no exception for the MFC . They have my money..they can do what they say they will. No more, no less.

I say it again.. dont do these things unless you can deliver.

Im having to bribe my daughter .. She barracks for StKilda but is prepared at a cost ; equivalent cash for voucher, a book..and lunch of her choice , plus..and I dread the words..'shopping in the city', to do Dad a favour. She's 13... She'd rather be with her friends on a Sat. Quite frankly id rather do something else..it will kill which ever day it is..as nothing is confirmed.

They asked me to participate..as they did with other members etc... Am happy to..but Im not at anyones beck and call. weekends close to Xmas are gold.

Pick up your act MFC.

You can bet if this was one of those "other " clubs we dont speak of.. Id know by now !!

edit:

Judging by the lack of comments regarding this enterprise they (MFC) cant be too inundated with offers to neglect any.

Am I the only one who said YES ??

Well despite there being vey litttle reaction to the request here apparently the MFC was in fact inundated ( so Im told by the club ) with offers and mine isnt required. Apparently Im still up for a book as consolation now !!

Lets hope the club learns something from it all. Still a phone call might have been nice or an email without me writing a niggly one first. Some may see these things as petty. To me they are the signs of how professional an organisation is..

Ive no Dount Martin and co are doing their best.. but...

You are spot on in regard to this BB!! What us long time supporters of the MFC are wanting to see from the new Admin and Board is a demonstration that the way the MFC is being fun has in fact changed this time!! Poor communications and lack of raport with MFC members has been an ongoing problem and while little annoyances like with this event are signs of the same old ways still being present.

We simply can not tell whether we could be invloved or not without being told what times are invloved!

Still waiting for the penny to drop!! For those who think should not be referring to old currency the problem has existed since we had pounds shilling and pence (i.e. MFC has not won a flag since changed to dollars!)

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
