Our preseason starts on October 13.

DB reiterated this point numerous times in the rooms after the game.

He is already looking forward to next year and so am I.

What are our realistic aims for next year?

I hope improvement, I don't expect top 8, but would love to see the young guys firing (the likes of Morton, Buckley etc.).

Stone, cold, motherless last.

Seeing what they dished up today i can't expect anymore TBH. We are terrible.

demons06 you're far too harsh. i think a realistic and satisfactory finish for 09 would be 10th-11th. I think Bailey will be able to use this pre season much better, rather than brainwashing them with tactical stuff. and the culling of a few players, and the injection of more youth and excitement adds to team morale. they'll forget about this season, because theres nothing they can do now, but use it to motivate them

We will have another average year I`m afraid. Bottom 4 for sure. We will improve no doubt but we are a long way behind even Port n Freo at the moment. We will pick up some great kids this draft, get another year into our under 22 brigade and I expect us to bounce back strongly in 2010

I think 10th-12th would be a realistic target next season.

Will be good to have Moloney, McLean, Rivers and the like in a lineup with Buckley, Garland & Grimes etc.

Dont underestimate the Baby Demons in '09.

Today was painful, so I'm going to look at who will be in our best starting 22 by Round 1 next year who was UA today through injury.

Aaron Davey, Jared Rivers, Brock McLean, Brent Moloney, Mark Jamar, Paul Johnson, Stephan Martin, Russell Robertson, Chris Johnson, Lynden Dunn, Matthew Bate.

Add Robert Warnock, + a no1 draft pick to get excited about at Casey...

Nope still depressing.

Bate, Dunn and Martin all played for Sandringham. No injuries there.

Well i can't see us rising too far from the bottom in 2009, but i would like to see the beltings stopped and some more competetive performances given.

Having said that, we will be in a position where we could be faced with a situation of where if we win no more than 4 games we could be looking at picks 1 and 2 or 3 in the last "pure" draft for some time. It's unfortunate to have to think like that, but if we are going to be near the bottom of the ladder again next year, the benefit of not winning more than 4 is ultimately huge.

NO, the old team is terrible.

You just wait & see when the all-new team minus a few of this years weary bodies & heads, & we'll welcome back Brock, Beamer, Davey, Wonna, Rivers, are ??? R warnock, Grimes, stronger Morton, stronger Frawley, Maric, Spencer for his debut @ some stage, a fit Petterd, a fitter Sylvia, & & & not to mention ???????????????Watts, Zaharakis??, Banner? Robinson? Cornelius? Cahill? :D

Geezusss!! Season over and not even cold and the "happy folk are distributing the 'death' pills already ffs !! lol

Lets get Mad Monday out the way at least. Lets see who also posibly retires.... who's traded...who we get...who we draft.. Its not all doom and gloom....maybe not sunny skys perhaps.. but its not armageddon either !!

Where will our original training sessions be at?

14-16th.

I really can't see how anyone could expect any higher, and it's part of the growing pains. We're rebuilding. We need 2-3 years of solid rebuilding and you have to expect bottom placings. I'm not judging that on the performances of this season only. We're losing plenty of experienced, veteran players. We're going to replace them with inexperienced youngsters. I wouldn't be surprised if we only get 2 wins next season to be honest.

Personally I would send our players to do a pre-season in Iraq. Better yet, send them on an end-of-season trip to a military base in North Korea.

If we finish above 14th next year it will be a small victory, but most importantly I want to see us continue to develop a spine. We found a decent group of defenders this year, but our midfield and forward-line is pathetic. We must rectify this over the next 2 seasons before we can even think about making the top 8.

You want the playing group dead?

I know todays performance was bad, but hey they tried. (I think!).

Meh.

They need to toughen up. Army training will be a great way of teaching them discipline, hardness and the virtue of team work. Alternatively, we could employ Chuck Norris to run a pre-season program.

Or Patches O'Houlihan.

While it's too early to be predicting our 2009 fate, depending on the drafts and trading period, I'd be expecting a bottom two or three finish again next year. While some aren't fans on here, I think Robbo adds a great deal of value to this sde. You know you're going to get at least 40 goals a season out of him, and he at least provides a genuine target inside 50. He'll need some support next year though. The forward line is an absolute embarrassment without him.

Realistically, it's good to see people being upbeat about the Dees, but this has been the most pathetic, boring, listless, clueless and embarrassing season I have ever seen Melbourne produce, and I'd rather not even think about 2009 just yet.

Or just get Mr T back.

P.S. Whatever happened with that? Did they make an ad for Snickers of just that thing for The Footy Show?

Mr T did make an ad for Snickers with a speed walker. Unfortunately it wasn't shown in Australia because the Descrimination board in the US thought it was insulting to homosexuals. Even though they only received 2 (thats right two) complaints. Go figure! Anyway, you can have a look at it on Youtube.

theres at least half a dozen players missing, Davey, Rivers, McLean, Moloney, Robbo, Wonna and the rest  but we were CRAP today, look l don't mind if we come last and get another no 1 pick as long as we show improvement and more desire, if we don't the Coach needs to answer question

Hey, 'bub, are you two different people using the one account? Cause one of you is the biggest cynic I've ever come across, while the other is in the top three most insightful, positive and intelligent posters on this site.

i probably resemble that remark !!! .....have you met Rupret ??? the evil twin??

Im not sure why cynicism is necessarilly mutually exclusive of insightful...... but I'll stop whilst on a roll!!

That sums up my hopes for 2009.

i just sat there at times today with my head down and if it was not down, it was shaking!!

the number of times that we murder the football is frightening!! we had no lead up target today, with bate playing two's for the retirees!!

was a very, very disappointing performance against a team that is known for their lack of courage!!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
